I've built a few Marshall Supa Fuzz style pedals and they sound fantastic. Possibly my favourite fuzz. But I don't use them very often because of the noise factor.
Today I happened to plug in my favourite Supa Fuzz with my recent USA Epi Casino and it was a beautiful thing. Such a great sound. But with P90s the whole noise thing is worse than ever. I guess I'm spoilt from playing low-gain ODs which are pretty quiet.
I always use a 100µF filter cap when building these. Has anyone ever managed to build a fuzz with the same kind of FAT Tonebender sound without Ge transistors? For those who may not know the Supa Fuzz was built for Marshall by the same folks who made the original Tonebenders and the circuits were virtually identical. The Marshall version used some larger caps so has a fatter sound. Which I happen to love!
