WTF Tayda UV print peeling off?

I printed two enclosures for two Sonomatic builds a while ago. I finally got around drilling them yesterday and today. I usually mask the enclosure with painters tape to avoid scratches on the finish. However, to my disappointment, after I peeled the tape, some of the UV print came off! I guess it probably would have come off eventually if it came off so easily. But I find this very disappointing. Have you guys had any similar experience? Should I reach out to Hugo?

I haven’t drilled the second one but it’s already wrapped in tape. I’ll try peeling it very carefully and hope for the best 😕

Definitely reach out.

I don’t remember which of my uv prints it was, but I had this exact issue on a build a few months ago, but only where I didn’t have gloss over it which was only on the drill markings so it didn’t matter. I’d be pretty upset and I’d reach out to Hugo. I wonder if any of my enclosures I haven’t opened up yet will have this issue

That’s disheartening. I have 3-4 enclosures for Cee’s designed I need to have done. Was trying to decide if it was worth the learning curve, but not if they’re gonna do this randomly.

Be curious if you ordered the Gloss Layer service as well. I had this issue on a print and I dont think I included a gloss layer. I always cover the entire face with a gloss layer now and its seems to hold up better.

If you didnt order the gloss layer it might be worth hitting your enclosures with a spray can of varnish before installing the PCB etc.

I got the file directly from Cees and it did not have a gloss layer so I just used it as is. In hindsight I wish I had done it but I am also not set up with either Illustrator or Affinity. 😐

Just drilled the second enclosure. I was more carefully peeling the tape so the result is much better, but a couple lines still came off. I’m gonna email Hugo to see what they will do to make it right.

Edit: at least I can use this one. I need to finish one of the builds to take with Italy with me in July. It’s for an old friend.

I’ve had this happen in small spots with thin strokes (1pt) on sand enclosures but only with a few months of wear and tear. I think it’s (unfortunately) good practice on the sand enclosures to avoid strokes smaller than 1.5pt

Try a wood drill bit for first millimeter. The circular cutting razor on them help to prevent splintering off.
