Your favorite earplugs?

I used to just use Hearos or foam plugs but my friends put me on to Loops. I have the switch model which has 3 different levels. I’ve taken them to a few concerts and use them for band practice and I find the fidelity to be acceptable. I’ve even used them at parties and stuff on the lowest setting when the volume is a bit uncomfortable.

The Loops use standard earbud tips as far as I can tell, so you can swap them out for whatever works best for you to get the perfect fit. Overall I really enjoy using them, and they are compact enough with their case that I keep them on my keys always, and I generally HATE having extra shit on my keys…

For anyone that might be testing their own hearing, keep in mind that most people's ability to perceive pure tones drops off around 15–17kHz. It may be that you can still hear the frequency as part of a more complex sound, even if you can't distinguish a sine wave up there.

I had no idea. The things you learn here! All that said, there's not much above 15kHz I am interested in hearing.

We have a monthly experimental music get together here in Fort Collins, which leans heavy into noise-music and heavy feedback, so earplugs are a must. December's event was "No Input" - everyone who was interested brought an effect pedal and they were looped to go into feedback or oscillation (delay pedals provide a sort of note generation in this context.
I forgot my usually, basic Shure earplugs, but discovered that my AirPod Pros in noise cancellation work much better than either foam or the basic Shure earplugs and are much more comfortable for me. Totally anecdotal, but the response seemed relatively flat - I would be comfortable using these to perform - and a substantial cut.

I did a hearing test last summer (mostly to resolve a debate with my wife) and am happy to still be able to identify up to the low teens. Turns out that there is a difference between hearing and listening. 😜. I do have a bit of loss in discrimination (picking sound out of background), though, to ponder neurologically..

I think I can sense a bit higher in some context, but have tinnitus that comes and goes, and which is right around 11.5 (I used Max/MSP to work this out, matching what I was hearing against the background ringing).
