Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

I've been listening to this Turnstile album a ton lately. I was a little late on the hype train, but holy shit it's good. This song goes from hardcore, to some kind of samba, to something in between.

last week, I collaborated with strangers from the internet on a song as part of FAWM, and I've been listening back to that song a lot. February Album Writing Month is an annual songwriting challenge and online community for songwriters. The challenge is to write 14 songs in the 28 days of February. A subset of FAWM participates in a 4 track cassette challenge, in which participants mail a cassette to each other, adds a track, and mails it to the next person. The final contributor produces and uploads the track. Participants in the 4 track challenge don't coordinate ahead of time on who will play what, in what style or genre, etc. I had known about it for a couple years (there's a great youtube series of some of these songs being made) and finally decided to join in this year.

The rules are that the first person must add a click on track 4, which the last person records over. It's encouraged to add a tuning note at the beginning of the cassette, but this one didn't have one. I received this tape with a vocal track, a bass line, and a click- no drums. The person after me added the drums, which is a really backwards way to put a song together. I did my best I could with the material I was given and I'm really pleased with how it came out. Here's the link:

Last night my wife went out to a show with a friend after our daughter went to sleep and I was left with some rare alone time.

I played guitar for a little bit, but once it got a bit late I decided to thown on a move that I loved ages ago but hadn't seen in maybe 20 years: Bottlerocket.

I still think it holds up, but that's not the point - it got this Love song in my head and it's been with me all day today. I hadn't heard it in a long time and I forgot how great it is, so I just wanted to share.

I’ve always liked the Damned’s version of this song. So un-Damned like.

I've ben listening to Scott Fagan for couple of years now as he comes up on my Spotify playlists pretty often. It wasn't until a couple of months ago or so that I actually dug a bit deeper in to him and read up on him and discovered that he's Stephin Merritt's dad, which was a pretty cool thing to learn.

Anyways, here's a great song of his:
