The weather here this weekend is cloudy and humid, not conducive to spraying nitro. My headstock on the neck is going to need a few days to cure.
However, it's the exact same neck that I used on my "Teletron Filtertron Tele" which is doing a stint in the closet rotation at the moment, I decided to steal the neck off of that one to finish this build.
Then I can take my time with finishing the neck to replace it without the overbearing pressure to hear how these Gold Foils sound......
So I installed the neck, strung her up, did a set up and was glad to be able to dial the pickup height adjustments nicely.
All I'm waiting for is the 5 way double pole switch to show up from Amazon today and I can wire her up!
Do you sell these off after you complete them? Or do you rent a storage unit?
I've been wanting to get deeper into building guitars (for the practice, I tell myself), but I don't have the space or money to keep everything. My net from the last two I built and sold was about -$200 plus some passive-aggressive remarks from everyone I share a living space with as they navigate the harvested guitar organs spread across the room
My "storage unit".....this is what's not hanging on my walls or in rack in my office.
Like I said....this has to be my "last build"........because I'm running out of room heh.
I tend to do a lot of horse trading, buying/selling but only retail guitars. I've never sold an M-Line and don't ever plan to. My dream is to eventually only have M-Line guitars. Kinda like only using pedals I've built. But I need to get better at finishing if I want to do a Les Paul.........someday.
So I took a little nap with my sweet little Bonnie (she's the white furry thing in my avatar) and woke up to find this at the front door.
Yeeeehawww for Amazon!
Double poles but on a single wafer. it "should" fit in the Tele control cavity. Gonna find out here in a sec.
Man, these pickups are LEGIT Gold Foils.
They sound fantastic. Clean they have a big broad Strat-ish kind of sound but maybe a bit more scooped. There's a big bass response in the new pickup yet also some airy trebles. I'm liking it with the tone rolled off to about 7 or 8.
With some light gain is where they really shine to me.
With medium to heavier gain they have a really cool "lo-fi" vibe to them. I'm not sure why but that's how they work and how a lot of Gold Foil demo's I've heard sound.
Highly recommend Victory Pickups if you're looking for some authentic sounding Gold Foils that are very affordable and you can get them in about a week or so.
Oh also, these are the quietest single coils I've ever played. I don't know how he's doing it but they are extremely quiet, yet I don't think they are potted. I see no evidence of potting, in fact they are even slightly microphonic like the old Tiesco's.
But even under a lot of gain there's no 60 cycle hum. Maybe it's the shielded cables? I dunno.
And one more BIG PLUG for Cavalier Pickups. This Nashville Tele bridge I have in here sounds fantastic!
The only issue I'm running into is the middle pickup is getting in the way of my picking. Much worse than it does on a Strat since it's bigger.
Since the pickup is not potted and somewhat microphonic every time my pick hits it, It makes a little "ticking" sound.
I'm mulling over what I want to do about it. I'm considering either moving the middle pickup a sketch forward. I just need maybe 4 mm more space. Or cutting down the ash stray bridge so I have a bit more picking room.
Or.....just see if I get used to it.
Nashville Wiring.....it's a bit convoluted but not too bad. .033 tone cap and my standard treble bleed circuit.
Will be getting a demo together soon. Stay tuned......

I cut a new pickguard for this guitar and moved the middle pickup towards the neck by about 1/4".
Works much better for my picking hand now and did not really affect the tone.
Also, sheepishly admitting that in my demo I had the bridge pickup out of phase. So the notch positions sounded more out of phase in the demo.
I finally figured it out and corrected it. Now it sounds right. But my excuse was being the first time playing Gold Foils I didn't know what I didn't know heh.
I also goofed and got a Matte finish pickguard, I meant to get Glossy. But I think it still look ok.
