Apparently we lost another TV / radio repairman in the area. His son posted some tubes on Craigslist. Included at least one tube I needed, so I drove over. Came home with the tubes and lifetime worth of bits and bobs.

My current tube stash came 100% from our local radio repair guy getting evicted and having to clean out his house/garage/shed. Me and a couple guys from church came and helped, so he said I could take whatever I wanted. I walked away with 4 large (16x16x16) boxes FULL of tubes. It was a good day.

It's a mixed blessing though, you'll be spending a lot of time with your tube tester figuring out which ones are worth keeping and which aren't. My wife got tired of listening to "click...ka-chunk...cl-cl-click...cl-cl-click" (repeated ad nauseum) while watching movies.
 
I scored my best tubes from a recycling company 20 years ago. They pulled preamp tubes from old radios like TFK, RFT, Phillips Miniwatt and such.

When I was 22 and dead broke, I delivered pizza to a guy who had retired from running a jukebox company. Long story short, he offered to sale me all of his tubes and tube tester for $250. He has 5-6 of the large Rubbermaid bins full. All audio tubes. Still kick myself for not making that happen. Could probably pay my house off with that now.

Agreed moving them around would be a pain, but also the logistics of finding buyers for and shipping 5-6 bins worth of tubes would be a nightmare.
 
Tube tester showed up yesterday!

The tubes from the amp I’m trying to fix all tested good, but my sweet haul of used tubes is about 50% junk so far.

There was one 12au7 and one 12ax7 in there that I was hoping were usable (and would have covered the $40 I spent on that whole mess). Both were trash.

Whole thing was still worth it for the cool knobs and transistors even if none of the tubes are good for anything.

Look into the non-guitar tubes just to be sure, there are some that aren't useful for guitar but are big for hi-fi people.

…and people who bought the Metasonix f*cking f*cker. All i remember about that thing is it used many and nontraditional tubes. Wait, did anyone actually buy that thing? Genuinely curious.

A friend texted me a few weeks ago
"Hey this guy I bought X from was also selling a big Rubbermaid bin full of tubes. Should I have gotten them? He was asking $50"

Hopefully he was able to get back in touch.
