Dirtiest/gnarliest/most "broken" overdrive?

Is it the Projectile (385)?
Is it the Argentum (silvertone 1484)?
Is it a variant of the Supreaux? (taqueria/superbolt)?
Is it the Fornicus (fuck overdrive)?

I want to get nasty... what's your favourite?

I quite like the Fat Fuzz Factory and the Expandora's "forbidden setting" for broken sounds. I also really like the Scarab Dlx for these sounds too.

Those are more fuzz than overdrive though
The expandora has always tempted me though

nice! do you have a preference, or are they different enough to warrant having all 4?
They're all good fuzzy overdrives. The superbolt style does a good blown out small amp sound and has tons of gain which you can bias correct or not. The fornicus has the sag broken amp sound momentary switch which is good if you want to sound broken. The 1484 does a pretty good approximation of that amp which I owned at one point. The 385 has a nice range of cleanish boost to more gain.

Honestly I think the Carcosa really shines as a lower gain, fuzzy overdrive. You can make it super gnarly sounding while still keeping the gain relatively low. Or try out the Barbershop since it's got that sag knob.

You want gnarly and broken? get yourself a zvex machine and start stacking it with other pedals. if you need some sort of idea of why, check out the zvex sonar which places the crossover distortion of the machine with a tremolo.

they're both on my board and I love them!
I was actually considering building a second chop shop, one to keep low gain and another for gainier, "saggier" drive
And yeah the carcosa comes close to what I'm looking for

Does it have to be a usable sound? The Devi Ever Super Soda Meiser is crazy but sometimes just that :)

Great suggestions for crazy sounds but not really overdrives 😂
