End of duty-free imports from China to USA

Is it time to return to monke etching?

Has someone done a DIY multi-layered board? I know they used to carry dual-sided copper clad, but like, a 4-layer board sandiwched? Thing'd be like almost 6.5mm thick haha.

It's always time for etching! It's the drilling that sucks.

I think even with a 25% import duty I won't need to raise prices at my shop. Certainly not across the board, so to speak. The real question is if PCB manufacturers (JLC) will raise prices eventually. That's way more concerning.

I have an incoming shipment that was "Processed for clearance" yesterday... normally that means it would be delivered today.

This morning I see that it still hasn't left that sort facility and is experiencing a "Clearance Event" ....

Just send me my bill and let's get on with it. 😭
Yeah DHL will at least invoice you online, UPS will send a bill via snail mail about a week afterward. I have a shipment that just came today that cleared customs 12 hours after this came into effect, I'm sure I'll get the bill next week.

The budget shipping option from JLCPCB has gone from $1.50 to $9.50. With the higher priced shipping and new tariff, an order of PCBs is almost four times as expensive as it was a week ago.

that's as much as it's been for me in Canada if I order more than like 20 boards

The saddest thing about all this is you never know what's gonna happen next nor when nor when it will be reversed/rescinded/ignored...

Cmon everyone, just ...

We're all in it together, we'll get through this storm...

Is there a special department that will handle this extra work?

I thought there were imminent layoffs coming.

So instead getting a bill of a week later you get it a month, 6 months, year later?

The carriers have always had a system in place for billing customs duties, but because of the previous $800 minimum I assume they just used it less. I've had to pay duties 3 times in my life, either when I forgot about the $800 line or when there was just no way around it. I'm just going to be doing it more often now.
