Shipping is ridiculous sometimes

Tayda is a last resort for me, but there are certain carefully vetted things I might buy from them every year or two. Not a fan of their enclosures and UV printing at all though
I'm curious - what don't you like about Tayda's enclosures? I've only used their bare aluminum, no powder coat or printing.

They're fine for what they are and can be a great deal IMO, but most of my builds use 1590BBS, a model they don't carry. Their UV printing has also been very hit or miss for me, and I greatly prefer getting a digital proof back before printing, as most other vendors I've used have provided. For my wants and needs Amplifyfun is just a much better fit at this time, and well worth the double dip on shipping. Just send him nearly any old file and any enclosure from anywhere, he gets back to you right away if it needs fixing, or takes care of it on his end without ever even mentioning it in some cases. I'd encourage anyone who it makes sense for (i.e. US builders) to try both vendors and decide for themselves, in any case. ;)

Here in the US Mouser used to do $4.95 Priority Mail shipping for under 13 oz. packages and Fedex 2 Day for $8, 9, or 10 bucks for quite a few years. That just jumped up to $13 for my last order, Priority Mail is currently 8 bucks but not showing a minimum weight now. They are my primary vendor for many many components and I can interact with an actual human quickly and efficiently almost always. Antique Electronics in their various forms have been getting my business for a few decades now and are often my go-to for tube based stuff.

Tayda is a last resort for me, but there are certain carefully vetted things I might buy from them every year or two. Not a fan of their enclosures and UV printing at all though, but happily I have someone nearly local to me who does nice work and since pedals are a fairly low priority thing for me I don't mind spending whatever it takes to get what I want a few times a year.
I'm in the US too and I still have a $4.99 "Economy shipping" option show up for me. It was $3.50 until last year

You just need the STEWMAX membership, then it ships for "FREE" — annual-membership fee is, what, US$250 now? IDK.
stewmax is basically responsible for this hobby that i have now.
before i ever built any pedals, i was deadset on attempting to build a jcm800/2204 clone, with no prior build experience lol.
stewmac used to offer these (repackaged mojotone 2204 kits) and then getting a stewmax membership was the cheapest possible way to get the amp kit shipped to me in aus (for free, w/ and somehow with customs covered).

They have1590BB2, which unless I'm mistaken, are similar to BBS.
Nope — footprint, yes, height no.
Yup, Tayda calls them 1590BB2 and they're the same as the BBS, ...
Nope, not the same.

Seems there's some confusion, perhaps because Tayda and others are using Hammond nomenclature to describe non-Hammond products.

To clarify, from the Hammond Datasheets:

HAMMOND MODELEXTERNAL HEIGHT in millimetres
1590BB34
1590BB237.75
1590BBS42.1

Tayda's interpretation of a BB2 is listed as being 38mm tall, but the BB2 is NOT equivalent to a BBS.

Since most of the PPCB projects are sized for 1590N1, most people here will be familiar with the height of an N1 (125B  ) — 39.8mm.
(125B varies manufacturer to manufacturer, but is usually within a millimetre or two of the Hammond N1.)

Incidentally, the Tayda "BB" is listed as only 33mm, compared to Hammond's BB at 34mm.
I can say that single millimetre often makes a difference to me in many of my over-crammed builds.
By comparison to either Tayda's or Hammond's "BB" enclosures, the difference between a BB2 and BBS is huge.

As Passinwind mentioned in post #22, Tayda does not carry the BBS.

Whoops, I stand corrected.
