What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

I have been holding onto this process and idea for awhile and can’t contain the excitement anymore!

So I’ve come across a process called lost pla casting. I have bought all the equipment and am waiting on the aluminum to come in to to execute. But pretty much I have 3d printed my unique design and will be casting it by creating a mold of plaster around the part and burning out the pla leaving a cavity for me to pour the molten metal into! Let’s see what’s happens!

Dude you're nuts! 🥜

You got your foundry furnace all planned out?

I had dreams of getting into that and sand casting aluminum. Maybe I still will someday.
I will be doing the casting outside on a mound of play sand mixed with water glass. I think you should the one I have here was on sale! I can send you a link if you want! It’s a 7kg crucible. I think that’s more than enough for what I’m doing for now!

Damn Steve you are having all kinds of fun over there, I’ll bring the beer and we can make enclosures out of the cans, and pour what’s left in an ant hill.

Dude! This is so cool! When we were talking about all of this kind of stuff however many months ago, I didn’t think you were gonna go for
Better looking than the one I made (and binned…) years ago

That's super cool. I've thought about casting my own, but with things and that, it'll be cooler to watch your progress :D
looks like you watched the same TKOR video that I watched when I was 13

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Lets do it, I have the chips when the munchies become unbearable 🤣

Ant hill castings are pretty cool, Whats funny is i actually have a giant one in the backyard. That should probably be the first experiment!

Thats so gnarly! Is that a bucket? It looks pretty large!
It's not lol. it's like a 2–3 gallon. The DIY video bricksnbeatles mentioned has it so it will fit a chopped off small fire extinguisher as the crucible, and charcoal on the outside. I had nut-sized coal but I was using a chopped camping propane tank and there wasn't enough room. Needless to say, I improvised when I had no idea what I was doing. *glances over at my bin of failed projects*

It looks huge!

A sawed fire extinguisher is a great idea to use as a crucible! Ive seen people use those steel vents that you find at Home depot or Lowes.

If you end up going into the casting business in a big way, I'm a fan of this coating product for that ceramic blanket insulation. I used it on a propane blacksmith forge and it works great.

*SIGH* I. Do. Not. Need. To. Learn. To. DIY. Cast. Metal. I already endanger enough lives around me.

So, where do you get this crucible?
The crucible came with the furnace!

There’s the link to the exact kit I got! You’ll need more things like all the ppe amongst the plaster and whatnot. It’s a lengthy list of stuff you’ll need!

I want to make a kiln as I will be doing the burnout in the furnace as well! I’m sure this stuff is perfect for that!
