What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

First attempt at prototyping a pedal around my existing onboard compressor PCB is a bit of a disappointment. I just don't like how everything fits together. This is what I get for being lazy and not making a dedicated, pedal-first PCB layout. There's too much offboard wiring, the one knob should be higher up on the pedal, the battery is in an awkward spot... Back to the drawing board.

Nothing is on my bench anymore. I cleared it off, perhaps some people thought I was joking when I said my journey is over, but it's the end of an era. I might build something again one day but it will never be like before. Im burned out on gear and I want to just play and enjoy what I have. I honestly don't think I can get any better for me than I currently have my rig. Looking for anything else is just gonna be me chasing my tail. Now it's just string changes and guitar maintenance.

I took a break from building because I had everything I needed. I just wanted to play. I recently started again because of that, I need some new sounds for an upcoming project.

Casting is hard. I did a small amount of sand casting a long time ago. I have what is a super far reach goal for my shop to setup something to do this one day. It would open up the door to being able to make a lot of custom parts. https://all3dp.com/2/lost-pla-casting-guide/

So I was going to start with lost pla casting but the investment is much to expensive to be sustainable. I went with sand and sodium silicate mixture and then hardened with co2. It’s cheaper so far but I think I’m just going to go with petrobond.

That makes sense I was thinking of doing it for things like bridges and saddles and stuff.

I had a pretty similar moment with my firearms stuff and reloading setup.
One day I just kinda said “meh,” and haven’t really touched it much since.

I’ll load up for a range day, or a hunting trip, but that’s about it.
The stuff is still set up and ready to go, albeit, with dust covers and a good covering of protective grease where it needs to be.

Hobbies ebb and flow.
I took a solid 15 year hiatus from building pedals, and jumped back in May of 2024.

Well, I'm considering committing suicide when my youngest graduates highschool, so maybe I should take up gun building now that I'm done with pedals. I could make it look like an accident and make sure my family gets the insurance money. Win Win.
 
Working on an Other* Pedals Everythang, DOD vibrothang clone.

My love is upstairs, resting and recovering, so I took advantage of the poor weather today to make progress on this guy. Now we just need the rain to stop long enough for me to run outside and drill the enclosure.

Little portable setup working well thus far, I just wish I had the foresight to also bring my magnifier/light.

This is round 2 with sand casting. This time I used the finer mesh sand I had packed it a little better than the first time around. Although still a fail, I feel I’m getting a little closer. Pouring from the top of the enclosure left a hole that I decided to fill with jb weld 🤣 at least this way you can see the shape I’m going for.
