I just did a quick mouser search for them and they are 2.5-5+ times the cost of Yageo depending on qty. Are they that good? Maybe I am too cheap? Or naive?

Ordering in bulk the price difference for a batch of 100 pedals wasnt too bad. I don't know that they're demonstrably better in any sense but I can bend the leads how I want them faster and get a better solder joint easier. That was enough to justify the cost for me, plus the bonus of looks=toan.

That Standel cab looks great. Some of my fave guitar sounds were Jan Akkerman using Standel's and Leslies on Hamburger Concerto by Focus. He could easily pull off all the magic live as well.

Overdriven Standel thru a Leslie with pinkie finger volume swells = mind blown.

I'll create a separate thread for this but am looking forward to a few repairs in the shop tomorrow. Two Rock with a pooched reverb tank (at least that's what I'm thinking without seeing it). Got parts in to repair a bunch of problems on a Fender Blues Deluxe. Which on its own wouldn't be a big deal but owner ripped off the tolex and recovered in fake leopard fur. It's like a Vegas lounge amp gone horribly wrong. Loaded up with a WGS speaker.

My strong suit? I take both equally serious. I love this stuff.

Interesting to note that an LM13700 OTA can be directly replaced by a NE5517 OTA. I haven't been aware of the later one so far, which
is seemingly out of production.

In thru-hole, yes, both dual OTAs are obsolete, but SMD is available and adapter boards are easy.

Used to be that the 5517 was only available at Digi-Key, but Mouser now carries it as well, though the former has a few more SKUs.

It also used to be several times more expensive than the TI version, but that's suddenly changed. Seriously, it was like $5 at one point.

SBP also carried a CoolAudio clone, which I bought on sale for 50¢ ea. but I wonder if semiconductor mfgrs might be discounting some things in preparation for the incoming idiocracatic edicts we have going on in this kak circus I call a country.


Edit: looks like SBP has ~2600 of the thru-hole versions of the LM13700. The CoolAudio chips are 60¢ now.

I pulled out my JCM800 build from last fall, after building the dirty Shirley I realized that there were a few things I wanted to make some changes on it.

I pulled my inspiration mainly from the Friedman Small Box. There are also some ideas from the JEL mod that I implemented. Overall it's the ideal 800 for me that sort of bridges the gap between a 68 1959 and a 2204. After rerouting all the wiring, I boxed it up and gave the head shell a deep cleaning and polishing.

Back in rotation now, tone henge is complete

They're much nicer to use than the cheap amazon ceramic tweezers they replaced, but that's my only basis for comparison. It's easier to hold on and manipulate SOT-23 package transistors. Just measured another batch of 120 and it was less horrible.

Broughton Subsonic

Fixing this shit so I can sell it. Sometimes it wouldn't switch on or off, it came this way from Broughton. No rhyme or reason to it - angle, or amount of pressure etc. I thought maybe it was something electronic. Nope. Just a cheap garbage switch. I swapped with one I had that came from SBP. Everything about the Broughton switch was just slightly different (and crap): the top, the rivet tops, no branding or info on it. The threads look terrible too. Anyway. Going on Reverb
