Boss PX-1?

Saw this pop up on my feed this morning, interesting concept (not sure “interesting” is the right word though).

I remember seeing something like this back in the spring where they were offering pedal plugins as a subscription. Quick look at the Boss site and it look like it could be the same deal.

Imagine your subscription expiring mid-gig…

If it was every Boss pedal, or at least a big chunk of them and free updates, then I could see the value. But compared to something like HX One I don't quite see the value here?

Somehow I feel like drawing parallels to Japanese companies like Nintendo and even From Software and how they sometimes seem to be so far behind the times in terms of online content and just "getting with the times" in general.

Plus I hate the name.

I mean they're still dragging around the COSM name. One of my first multi-effects pedals touted this cutting edge "COSM" technology, that was like 30 years ago. :ROFLMAO:

I abhor Roland's user interface design language. I could tolerate small boss pedals because they only have a few knobs and no unintuitive menus to get lost in. But something like this with a tiny screen and controls you have to memorize and no personality.. ugh

Could it be a lightning fast reaction to the TC Electronics Plethora pedal?

I doubt companies like Boss move that fast.

But now that you've brought that to my attention... I might get one of those, I've eveyed the x3 or x5 but they seem like a bit much for me (since I already use a multi-effect as a base), but the x1 is pretty reasonably priced. At least compared to PX-1.

The Extortion Pedal - self-bricking pedals unless you continuously hand over cash are here.

Oh dear.. coupled with the tariff exception for small packages disappearing 1st Sept.. this just adds another cost-nail into the coffin. Or is it Roland's need to increase the cost, reduce physical packages due to tariffs and bypass to use digital service payments to maintain the revenue stream?

So in 3 years time.. Roland decides not to continue to support.. and you have an Apple Pedal door brick.

Do I now need a smart phone to play guitar?
Ask keyboard players about the hassle with the Roland cloud...
I'd rather stick with my VF-1 (and my XV-3080).

Actually the TC Plethora x1 has been out for ages! But the Plethora range seems pretty good to me. The Three is appealing, but I haven't bought one. And from my experience with the Flashback pedals I really like TC's lack of tone-suck, unlike Boss. I have a DM-2W which sounds good but the buffer sounds pretty bad.

Remember these?

I wanted one so bad, I ordered it online from Pryme-assx — took my money, I had order-confirmation, a tracking-#, etc and then it magically vanished from the co's inventory and I was unceremoniously sent an "gawrshucksDearJohn..." email with a refund. Didn't want to be refunded, wanted the pedal (hmm reminds me of my last order at BYOC... same thing).

The iStomp would've allowed me to have this:

People tell me to get one online used... but meh... sucks to have tech that can't withstand the test of time.
