Wubba what? Harry Klippton built a pedal? Believe it or not, I'm not just here to run my mouth, make claims I can't back up, and tell newcomers their soldering is bad. I hadn't built a pedal in over a year, and I hadn't built a PCB pedal in almost 2 years. This shit is actually kinda fun, although I completely forgot my workflow.
The mercurial build came as a result of being a beneficiary of @peccary's good will. He is the mercurial messiah and he provided me with the board, the dual gang pot, and the most badass part of all, the two smaller knobs. He made them himself on a lathe in his garage some 3 years ago maybe and gifted them to me. I decided to design the look of the pedal around them. They look spectacular and feel great.
The build was really straight forward. The op amps are soldered in cuz fuck sockets. I used a push-in panel mount lumberg DC jack that I've had forever because I hate messing with getting the nut on. I'm not sure it was worth the extra hassle because I had to hand file slots in the drill hole for the tabs to fit in and it's a very snug fit. I'm not sure that DC jack is coming back out.
Silver foil no film on a black enclosure. I can't even remember when I printed the decal or how old it is. It did crumble a bit but not too bad. I might be done messing with the metallic foils at this point. Who knows.
I finished this a few nights ago and got to play it for about 20 minutes this morning. I basically haven't played guitar for the last 2 years so my playing is pretty rough. Not sure yet if I'm going to lean into it or pack it in completely. Anyway, this pedal is a bit interesting and I can see some possible use cases for it. I like it as a frequency cut rather than a boost, and I don't particularly like the gain. It's too mushy, which is how I always feel about op amp dirt pedals. It's definitely not making it onto my board but I'll keep it around in case it might be a good problem solver in a pinch.
And as a bonus, I also built the 3 channel splitter. I don't think a splitter deserves its own build report, especially not with a faceplate, doubly so with a faceplate i didn't design.
I actually cursed this build every step of the way. I did a lot of hand filing with a round file to make the enclosure and faceplate line up. I also redid the off board wiring entirely a second time because I wasn't happy with it. The splitter works and does what it says. Not much else to say about that.
