ODR-1 Mods

Hey all! I wanted to start an open discussion with something that was on my mind recently in this ODR-1 clone build journey I'm in the middle of. Why does it seem like we don't mod ODR-1s enough? I feel like there are so many mods done to other pedals to the point where there are full on pages and blogs about the mods on one specific pedal. I feel like I can't seem to find much out there on different mods for the ODR-1 aside from the obvious bass knob/switch.

I'm curious as to what anyone everyone else thinks? Are there other cool mods or tricks out there to be done on the ODR-1? Or is it one of those things where it can get past the point of diminishing return? I have seen where someone swapped the clipping diodes with LEDs. Has anyone else done this?

Thanks ya'll

There is the bass-mod

Thanks for the links and info! I know there's ways of adding a bass knob or switch or what have you. I just wasn't sure if there were any other crazy mods anyone knew of that would change the gain characteristics or compression or what have you. I did read in the first link that that person had changed the diodes around a little bit but I was unsure how they made out or if it was a drastic enough difference.
I did order the nobelman PCB and look forward to the build! I do intend to mess around and modify it a little to add the bass knob. Unfortunately I didn't know about the Aion PCB until after I ordered the nobelman... way it goes I suppose lol. But I think all in all I'll throw sockets in the diode positions and have some swapping them in and out periodically and see what sticks!

This is DIY, you can build as many different ones as you want. Order the Aion board, too.

Lol this is true, build em all!! I'm just starting to learn how to read schematics slowly but surely but just loving building kits and getting a grasp of how everything actually works. A lot fun!

I really wish I had Chuck chops at breadboarding for stuff like this. I have a few Nobels builds in the wild that a few friends are using on their pedal boards and love them but I've never moved past stock builds.

Yeah same here just pcbs

@PortSide Cris: The link I posted was a post of Chuck D Bones. He has his own forum in Pedalpcb forum where he breadboards schematisch and tries to improve them (mods them) and creates originals. For me most of it is over my head ( a bit of that has to do with my language skills). But I keep reading and learning. I suggest to search the forum for the type of questions you have and Chucks posts in particular. If Chuck claims there is nothing to improve, my guess is there is nothing to improve.

Breadboarding this schematic seems doable for me, allthough I have never done that. As I have never made stripboards.

Ahhh I gotcha thank you! That's pretty interesting. I'll definitely keep an eye out for Chuck's posts. The link you posted was definitely a little bit over my head with my current skill level but I can understand the concept of what he did there. I really appreciate the input! Just happy to join somewhere that has people ready to pass whatever information along when it comes to this stuff 🤘

I can't work breadboards but can do Vero - it's easy and gets easier with practise. It's a great way to try circuits and Vero takes mods a lot easier than PCBs do. If you like PCB you can work out what you want to do on Vero then build the PCB accordingly.

Woah woah wait what the heck is Vero? Lol you've peaked my interest. I was about to convince myself to start learning how to breadboard lol

As much as I love building and modding: I just went all out and ordered one of these when they came out..
From the original ODR-1 designer Kai Tachibana now operating under his own "Nordland" brand.
Essentially his ODR-1 circuit with added mods.
Bass/ Mid pot, high/low gain switch, "decompression" pot.
This was a Limited 30th anniversary run of 200 but he also makes them now in a "standard" version.

This is basically exactly what I would wanna clone lol especially the decompression control. It sounds exactly like what I'd be looking for. Doesn't Aion make a PCB for this?
