I assembled the PCB in January and just got around to finishing the enclosure. I'm not a fan of the offset footswitch but what are ya gonna do.

I made some rookie mistakes on this one from not having built many pedals lately. My text is a little too close to the pots so I had to use smaller knobs than I had wanted to. My decal crinkled real bad but I'm gonna live with it. After all, it's a thing to be stepped on. The graphic design is from a series of blank tapes from 1970 that I collect. I redrew the whole thing in inkscape manually.

I did some wacky series resistors to get to the odd values. I wrote them down but I don't have the post it note right now. I will update later, but they look like this

I only tested this out on my desktop amp to make sure it was working. I'm planning to spend some time with it tomorrow with a real amp. I'm excited to put this on my board though

I started this one forever ago and never finished.... couldn't source the trannies... I ended up getting some SMD's but I've been on a pretty big hiatus on builds... Family & work super busy and my wife ended up having more cancer surgeries and radiation treatments the past few weeks.. I' have barely built one pedal since the holidays.

I feel you. I built 2 all of last year, and this is my only one so far this year. It's possible it'll be my only one

Ok I played this for almost an hour this morning. I like it and I don't. It's really fun but possibly not totally useful.

Half of the gain range is not usable. I don't like that it gates really hard a little after halfway on the gain knob. I like the medium gain and cleanish sounds out of it though.

I like the high pass filter, although I wish I had read the description better before designing the control labels.

I'm curious to try this as a direct preamp without an amp, and also with bass.

I can imagine myself using this from time to time but not keeping it on my board

After listening to the jhs demos I had this filed under “why the F did I buy this PCB!?” and then I saw a unicorn Harry Klippton build report and had a brief moment of hope. “If Harry took the time to build it surely it has some redeeming value.” Sadly I am back to my original thoughts after reading the final assessment. That aside Mr Klippton has come through in spades with his execution, even down to the replication of resistor values that I was totally like “fuck it 39 and 52k is damn well close enough!”. All in all this is no more or less than classic Klippton. Well done sir.

FWIW it's a fairly unique sounding preamp, so many things sound extremely similar to something else. This one has some je ne sais quoi that, as Will said, isn't going on the pedal board but could be useful anyway. I built one because I try to keep my mind and ears open. I may not love it but it's there on my shelf if I need to make my signal sound like.... y'know... that. It's at the very least worth the effort populating the board since you already have it.

Honestly I think it was on the wishlist so long that when it became available I was like ok let's go. I don't regret building it but once again I'm like ho hum another pedal. The Reverb demo made it sound good
