Thoughts on Mogami cables?

Does anyone have thoughts on what to connect to those cables? ;) What connectors are you all using?

Squareplugs get a lot of promotions on BTPA and Redco, but there are loads of other options. Any preferences? Ones to avoid?

Oh man these squareplugs look cool - I've always thought the regular pancake ones looked so janky and these do not at all.

I really only avoid plugs that I think look wack or really cheap ones that look like they'll fall apart while soldering. Some of the neutriks look like transformers (the cartoon) to me and the plastic end cap on most of the ones I've handled in real life feel cheap and cheapen the whole thing overall to me. I know I'm probably in the minority on that opinion because they are really popular. I tend to just like the switchcraft basic all metal right angle and straight joints.

I have no real reason to make any cables right now, but I've got a cart going over at Redco and I feel like those plugs have been eyeballing me hard. I don't know why I find them so... attractive? I dunno, I just feel like I need them in my life for some reason.

You gotta use what works for you. Too early to give a fair review of the Neutriks. I figure a few hundred cycles should tell me. I also made one for my pedal bench test so it should get some use.

As I type, I'm reading about some groovy connectors I didn't see...🤪

Next Gen has a good selection of connectors, not that much choice of cable though.
Always was satisfied with the stuff I got from them (but wouldn't know about their cables and connectors).
Thanks! 😺

Can't believe I've never come across this before in some quest or another for parts.

The logo looks familiar, so I'm thinking I must've come across this at some point, BUT I usually catalogue any/all suppliers I come across and can't find mention of Next Gen in my notes.

So, it's gotta be new-to-me.

Many thanks, SYLV9ST9R! 😸

I could use some square-plugs for ...
Oh, wait... wait wait wait... wait-a-minute!

I just wanted to build a few pedals, that's all I ever wanted. Repair a few cables, too, maybe...

Then I got introduced to my now good friend and amp designer/builder/repairer... So now I'm building amps.

Another friend/former band-mate builds guitars, from scratch, scraping necks out of blocks of raw wood, custom-inlays etc... So I got a bunch of Tele parts to assemble, just so I don't go out and buy a wood-lathe, table-saw and fret-slotting files etc.

I've always respected and admired the people who can do, and do do, everything for themselves... such as winding pickups, something I'd never attempt or even want to attempt — like building amps, there's lethal voltages in there, but...

Now I'm introduced to Next Gen and... hmmm what do we have here...

Great... just freq'n great...
All I wanted was to build a few pedals... that's ALL!

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, SILV9ST9R, WHAT — HAVEYOUDONE?! 😾

Either way, they'll be Canadian-made.

... but deliriously, folks...
I'm still but a padowan at pedal builds, I'm an absolute amateur at building amps, I'm the lowest level of Luthier such that you can't really call it that...

I need another rabbit-hole hobby like the universe needs another atom...

So, Fig, you might be waiting a long-long while for your Canadian-made, made-in-Canada, custom-wound Lipschtick-PALF-Cobalnico-huminum-widerbuckertronagerails.

I have been checking out Redco and they have all sorts of things I need. So I filled up a cart with plugs and sockets and it came to a very reasonable total - until I hit shipping. That stopped my order dead in its tracks. I know I live miles from anywhere but the shipping was crazy. Even if I chose USPS and waited the 3 months for it arrive it was prohibitive.

It's the same at Mojotone. Everything I need but insane shipping costs. It's very frustrating.

I've been thinking about getting some Redco stuff too, but I just saw your post and never looked into shipping. So loaded a quick cart up and wow! No thanks.

Check out https://www.performanceaudio.com/

I never ordered from them, a little less selection. But I just saw they gave free USA shipping on over $20.

Wow! Somehow I missed that TB thread.

I know SP're much pricier, but that pic just killed any notions I had of getting the Reanal, failures they are. I prefer to make my own, so the flat cables on the left are EBSolutely out of the question.

I think I read that the only difference between the SP400 & SP500 is the size of the cable they can take.

I may be wrong but I believe that @HamishR is in either New Zealand or Australia.
Perthonally I think he'th in Authtralia!

Just about the furthest place from anywhere, Perth 🤪, barring a remote island in the Indian Ocean I once looked at via Googull Terra ... it's a research facility and gets a ship once every three months... Île Kerguélen. Population 120 in summer, but in winter only about 40.

Years ago I had some flatmates from Perth, a great couple. When the world recovers from Covid craziness, I'd like to visit them there; and I've got a Kiwi friend who's a teacher in a small school north of Perth, like wayaayayyyyyyy north, almost on the coast if you take a straight line up from Perth. It's so remote, you get extra pay just to stick around... kinda like how "flag-people" get paid so well for standing bored out of their wits with their "Stop/Go" paddles in the hot sun on road-construction... Nobody would stick around for those jobs if it didn't pay well.

Haha! Yes I'm in Perth, like Music6000. Western Australia makes Texas look tiny. I had a job up in Kununurra some years back and the flight on a 737 from Perth is 3 1/2 hours - and we still haven't left the state. To drive from top to bottom of Western Australia would take almost a week. And then we have oceans to cross before we leave the country. Still, when you have things like a pandemic it's not so bad to live here.

It's remarkable how the internet makes us feel so much closer to the rest of the world. We only feel distant when we order something on this internet. 😲

I snagged a dozen of the rean pancakes from markertek and I'm just going to try to suppress knowing that squareplugs exist. I also don't need any cables to fit that tight of a space. Might try to sand off the R logo depending on how that's on there.
