Boss FZ-1W

It definitely has a warm character, which all the Maesteo fuzzes lacked. I wonder how long it will take for someone to trace?
Probably not long. Question is whether or not the buffer is required. There are a few Boss pedals that don't sound right without it. I'm guessing this will likely be one of them.

Yours is the only real pedal demo channel because you let the single coil hum on in the background while you talk.

Every other channel has pristine compressed sound and Hollywood cinematography. BS.
Not to hijack the thread but I have to respond to this. This is exactly why I started the channel and got back into building again, I was so tired of buying a pedal that one of the youtubers demoed only to find out it was a piece of shit. I talked to my buddy about starting this and realized I would need about ten grand, a crew of four and no real job to make everything sound like a real channel.

I like that since I started a year ago I have added a few items to make it look better and things will keep getting better but I promise you it will always be a real representation of a pedal and a mediocre guitar player without asshole loads of compression, eq and what not.

Light compression, no eq and floor it, yeah that's technical talk.

Strangely enough, I got a set of fuzz pedals based on the Big Muff Civil War that I'm building that sounds a lot like what you're putting down. I was kind of shocked at the sound. Ends up being a fuzz that can act like a nice overdrive pedal. Can dial in a nice bit of fuzz that isn't overwhelming and doesn't compress the shit out of the sound.

So what you're saying is the 60 Cycle Hum channel could use more 60 cycle hum? Time to go get the shame flute.

However, unlike any of these classic fuzzes, I think what Boss is going for here is a classic fuzz sound but without all the downsides that most of the classics have. That being the problem of pedal placement. Most of the classics require you to have it at the beginning of the chain. I think Boss is trying to nix that requirement with the FZ-1W by implementing some sort of modified buffer that makes impedance changes less of a problem. Could be wrong...but it sure sounds like that's what they're after with this pedal.
This I’m not actually sure of, if you check the boss spec page

You see this

Input Impedance
1 M ohms (Effect Off)
22 k ohms (Effect On)

Also in their demo, when they stack pedals, they only show the FZ-1w in front of other dirt, not after.

I think is gonna be a hot-rodded Fuzz Face, picky as ever about placement.

That channel has interesting content sometimes (I'm a surf and reverb fiend) but Ryan rubs me the wrong way somehow. I do like that he keeps his playing basic (like Dan) because it's more relatable and it actually showcases the pedal rather than the player.

One channel that caught my attention lately is Knobs because, while it's immaculately produced, at least it has unusual music.

I’m not a fan of 60 Cycle Hum (the YouTube channel) because are we really so desperate that we are gonna start sniffing corks of the bottom of the barrel. He’s sitting there demoing a $10 guitar, and he’s surprised that it’s not perfect?…

Yeah, I'll watch occasionally but 60CH isn't my favorite. I'm gonna sound like an asshole, but his chops are kinda weak for what he does. Sometimes I'll watch and appreciate the honesty of a mediocre player showing exactly what the average person will sound like but he should edit more things out. Slapping the shame flute logo over clam jams is kind of unacceptable.

Knobs and Andy Martin are the opposite, I don't always trust that I'm not just mesmerized by the chops/ production.

Pretty sure you're not a mediocre player BTW

Check is in the mail, thank you!

Here is a link to my most popular video for all of you diyers

My channel is just for us nutters and with that I want feedback on how I can tailor it to our needs. I have plans for the future videos to showcase the lesser known drives, the difference in the compressors, bass player content and a headphone recording rig. If there is anything anybody wants to see or hear let me know.

Last hijack i promise

Just keep doing what you are doing. I love the vids Dan.

I‘m damn curious as to how it’ll compare to some of the other silicon fuzz pedals I have. Do have a silicon Fuzz Face as well.

I'm very happy with the Dunlop JHF1. It's quiet, warm and has great cleanup. I'm going to build a stripboard clone of it so I can add DC power and an LED and keep it on a compact board.

This FZ-1 sounds really good but I want to see how the cleanup works with the buffer. One demo is not enough. Not to worry, we'll be flooded with demos soon.

I wonder if it’s based on the vintage and modern modes of the hyper fuzz? They could also be mining their own archives - the bee baa and the other Roland fuzz circuits are pretty cool.
