Old Bassballs EHX pedal repair

Working on this for a friend of mine. It has the old barrel dc jack. I know how to fix that, but it seems when the pedal is not engaged it has hardly any sound, works fine when the effect is engaged. I know it is not wired true bypass but it is a symptom of this pedal or is something else going on here? He says it was like this before the power issue.

I would clean and reflow a bunch of those joints. I’d replace the jacks, switches and the offboard wiring too just because I had it open.Those in/out wires are frazzled

I’ve messed with a few of these and can say that I have never experienced a weak signal in bypass even with the older non true bypass wiring. I’m with Nostradoomus, those wires look extra jank, esp the brown one to the output jack. Might need to bust out the audio probe

I would agree. That's what this is- red in, brown out.

Start with a continuity check on the switch lugs. I'd put my money on that switch being bad.

Yeah my bad I posted before thinking on the bypass switch. I replaced the jacks and wiring and all is good in the world.
