J201 work for 2n5485?

Building a muffler. Calls for a 2n5485. Will a j201 work? If so, will j201 always work as a replacement?

Edit-i have SMD J201. 2n5485s are out if stock everywhere, and am looking for a substitute, so in the future when I cant find em again, i’ll know what I can use.

If you check the pin outs that will tell you if it will work. The j201 has a higher gain, so, depending on your layout, you might have to change some values. For example, I used them in a phaser, but I had to increase the resistance going to the trimpot so it would calibrate.

I'm building the muffler pedal and Q3 requires a 2N5485 transistor. These have become extremely difficult to source (UK) and I don't want to risk spending a bunch on ebay for something which could be fake. I've had a search around a few sites and there's been a few people asking for suitable alternatives to the 2N5485 (MMBF4393, NTE451, PN4393) but I haven't seen anything definitive. The few alternatives I have seen mentioned are generally just as rare/expensive these days too.

Are there any readily available replacements I can use instead?
