Mouser BOMs with better parts quality?

If I sound confrontational, it is just a mirror of the way I'm being treated on here.

With all due respect, reading from the top (including the deleted post) I'm seeing an F-bomb dropped in response to a possibly misinterpreted running forum joke about overhyped / overpriced diodes. The people of this forum will not only help you find what you're looking for, they'll probably send it to you if they have it.

I think it was a misunderstanding, but I'm not entirely sure... it's a little odd to come in offering something, then act surprised when you discover that thing that you were offering a few posts earlier doesn't already exist.

I mean come on, the assholes haven't even gotten here yet.

I said that I was new. My autism doesn't understand inside jokes or online sarcasm. I reread my comments and I sound pretty damn contrite until everyone starts telling me how great crappy parts are and how doing it ALL yourself is ideal. And oh yeah, the white knight, virtue signaling! Those comments are not helpful. I find it quite ironic that folks using cloned PCBs are giving me a hard time for wanting stuff to be more streamlined.

@tablebeast To save you and everyone else the ongoing pain of this terrible thread:
  • What you are looking for does not exist.
  • Everyone here put in the little bit of effort to figure out the types of parts needed to build the PCBs that Robert provides.
  • There is nothing "incomplete" about this arrangement, as the literal *hundreds* of completed builds will attest to.
  • This forum is very helpful with genuine questions on part sourcing.
  • Many people have tried automated BOM building tools or methods, none have stuck or been worth the trouble, usually cause we all already learned how to find the parts needed.
  • Do it like, twice, and you'll realize it's not nearly as hard as it might seem.
  • If you can build amps, you can figure out Mouser filters and check a few part sheets.
  • You're far from the only neurodivergent person here.
  • This forum rarely has problems with people being dicks. It's incredibly welcoming and helpful, so if you show up and immediately have problems, it's almost definitely on you. In this case, 100% you. Sorry, not sorry.

If you have a Mouser project already saved you can click on the share button and it’ll give you a code that people can enter on this page:

Here’s the code for a PPCB Deflector cart that I did a little while ago:

I don’t think you need to be logged in to see it.

I basically just looked at a few Aion BOM/carts and “reverse engineered” them to figure out what filters I needed to pay attention to. I don’t have strong component brand preferences, but picking one or two common brands that you’re cool with can be a really useful way to narrow your searches too.

Mouser don’t have very good prices on jacks, enclosures, etc. So I get at that from Stomp Box Parts and Love My Switches.

I started with building kits from BYOC (RIP) and other places. Now I just want the PCB. I like hunting down the parts, and assembling everything my way now. not just a cookie cutter kit. I don't think anyone wants to make a shopping list for everyone when some people might not like the same components. The ingredients for my pizza might be different that what you want on your pizza.

Cool, thank you.

Fair enough. And thank you for the thoughtful reply. The only thing I'm having trouble with is the tiny sizes of everything. I do like the hunt, but when the specs call for 2.5mm wide and everything on Mouser is listed as 2.6mm wide, then I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Call me crazy!

The only thing terrible about this thread is folks' reading comprehension and elitist attitudes like yours. I said right away WHY I didn't want to use Tayda's parts and that if this info WAS missing that I would provide it. I also said I didn't need comments from the peanut gallery. OR maybe I forgot that part and thought I was dealing with adults? On that note, thanks for inspiring me to find the ignore button.

Nice way to derail a mostly constructive posting with more criticisms of folks that, one way or another, were just pissed off at how critical your comments seemed to be. If you care about cooling down the exchanges, stop feeding them.

There is another practical reason that a number of users here see little interest in BOMS, which is that after doing this for a few years folks often have existing parts inventories to populate the PCBs they work on. In those cases, new builds may only require a small number of parts being ordered.

Derail? I was clarifying, for those that weren't aware, that this guy obviously only skimmed over my comments before he unleashed vitriol. No apologies on that. I'm not here to play, I'm here to get work done. And I don't care if folks get pissed, your little feelings are the absolute least important thing to me on Earth. And like I said before, I am just a mirror. Come at me with BS and guess what you'll get back in force? On the other hand, I can be very helpful and respectful to folks that do the same. All that said, though I DO love a good debate, clearly this ain't my scene.

I have a friend that circuit bends and he has to vet every single part he buys from them and gets a ridiculous failure rate that is close to erasing his "savings".

If this is not an exaggeration (or fabrication) then there is clearly some builder error taking place here.

A few bad components? Maybe.

Enough to even remotely impact overall cost? Something isn't right.
