    PedalPCB Ocelot Octave

I finished building my second pedal last night... man she looks SO clean. I have a yellow LED and yellow knobs for a sort of "cat like" vibe... now for the painstaking task of painting the words for the knobs. I just finished doing this to my Gherkin Fuzz and the words came out really well!

    Uploading Photos

I was trying to post a build I just finished but when I try to upload the photos, it just says "File is too large". My question, what size do photos have to be in order to upload them? I shot the photos on a Samsung s7 so I wouldn't imagine they are too big, but they probably are... Nevermind...

    Gherkin Fuzz IC sub

You should build it! I love mine... Also, I believe I had to get the IC from Mouser; it wasn't cheap but it was exactly what was called for.

How can I desolder an “uncleanable” pcb pad?

If none of the above work, a thumbtack or small pin needle can punch through the solder. I have done this in tight situations and then was able to put a wire through for installation or to get the extra solder off. Just be careful not to heat the board up too much or the pads might come off with.

Basic Workflow Tips for Building a PedalPCB

After just looking on Tayda, is there a "breakaway" female version too? The only thing I see is the following which doesn't say it is breakaway: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/connectors-sockets/sockets/30-pin-dip-sip-ic-sockets-adaptor-solder-type.html

Basic Workflow Tips for Building a PedalPCB

This tutorial way helped me with my first pedal! Other than user error wiring and such, it worked on the "first" try. I hadn't even thought about using sockets for LEDs or other parts that could be replaced by different values; that would save a TON of time when wiring! I will have to order...

    N-Channel JFETs

    N-Channel JFETs

I am working on getting together a purchase order for building the Ocelot Octave and am having a hard time finding the 2 required N-Channel JFETs (2SK30A) for the build. Any suggestions on where to find these or a similar diode I could use to complete the build with?

    EXTREMELY Loud Gerkin Fuzz

So, I should've known what the Way Huge does before even posting this... LOL Nonetheless, is there anything that can be done via the pots (internal or external) that can decrease the headroom on the Loudness? If not, I think I have dialed in a decent tone I like, but I am sure I will play...

    EXTREMELY Loud Gerkin Fuzz

I just got through building the Gerkin fuzz and it is LOUD!!! Like, I can barely put any gain on the Loudness pot and it is exerting entirely too much volume. I also have the Crunch (compression) set to about 11 o'clock. Sustain is at about 2 o'clock while the Filter and Scoop are almost at...

Should I keep going or "rebuild"?

I imagine it is the most common thing that really messes people up! Thankfully it was an easy enough fix where I didn't have to scrap it. I am thinking the next pedal I will build is the obsidius preamp. I will have to post final pictures once this pedal is all painted and such.

Should I keep going or "rebuild"?

This is the exact advice I needed... I probably would've eventually thought of it, but that helped a lot! Pedal is working and sounds AMAZING!!! I just have to drill the LED and DC Jack a little bigger to fit the hardware I have chosen but other than that it is good to go! Now to find someone...

Should I keep going or "rebuild"?

I haven't tested for continuity yet... all that is left to attach is the dc jack and input/output jacks. Let me check for continuity real quick though. Just tried testing the continuity between the Loudness pot and the "Out" of the footswitch... yep, its bad! So, if a wire/lead breaks after...

Should I keep going or "rebuild"?

So, I was working on making a Gerkin Fuzz and got the PCB looking SEXY!!! I started to connect the footswitch and then my wire broke... I reached for some more but by the time I removed the old wire the solder pad on the Output of the PCB was gone... both sides! If I have enough solder on the...

    Gerkin Fuzz question

Done and done! I am excited to build my very first pedal and start using it on my board! I will try to post build photos as I go along otherwise will post photos of the completed work. I am sure I will have some troubleshooting but if not, then maybe I am lucky? LOL Can't wait for this "Way...

    Gerkin Fuzz question

Another question (sorry, just want to make sure I have the correct info before I order parts and the PCB itself) Will this trim pot work: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/500k-ohm-trimpot-variable-resistor-6mm.html or do I HAVE to use a 3362P trim pot? I am way new when it comes to building a...

    Gerkin Fuzz question

Are D1 and D2 actually needed here? I see they are both just 3mm LED's but look to be a looper circuit. Why would you utilize LED's instead of an actual diode? I was looking at the traced schematic of the Way Huge somewhere else and it doesn't mention the need for D1 & D2 anywhere...

Can I Use Electrolytics or Tantalum Caps in Place of Film Caps?

Another question related to capacitors, does it matter whether you use Poly Film vs Poly Box vs Ceramic Disc? In the schematic all it shows is the "double box" but on the PCB there are smaller boxes where the caps go, and larger boxes where the caps go. My thoughts are use Poly film for the...

    MBQ3904 I.C. Chip

I am trying to get all of my components from the same place but am running into an issue with this part. The part is needed in the build for the Gerkin Fuzz (Way Huge Swollen Pickle replica) and would be interested in a similar chip. I would be using this pedal on bass so a replacement would be...

To buff or not to buff...

Not sure which thread I should post this in so I just went with the general forum... When it comes to building pedals specifically for the intent to use on bass, should I buffer the footswitch? I am talking about all the kit boards that can be found on this website... There are so far 2...
