    Slow Danse Macabre—Dimension-P

I finally figured out how a Boss Dimension C works and got all excited that I was going to invent a way to do it with PT2399s...only to find out that it had been published at least as early as 2011 as the Dimension P. It's not exactly how I would have done it (not because I'm an expert—I...

DEMO Cobalt Drive (Boss BD-2 Blues Driver)

Nice. My Cobalt Drive is one of my favorite pedals. I've always felt like "Blues Driver" was a terrible name for the BD-2. It's so much more versatile than that. To me, anyway.

The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald

This isn't actually about the Wreck of the Ella Fitz, but given that we were talking about my other pedal that got messed up, I thought I'd provide a minor followup: I got the other pedal back from my friend. It definitely didn't work. I took it out of the case (including cutting the wires from...

the final step and bane of my existence- wiring

I do plenty of Destructive Component Removal. The hard part is limiting it to when it's intentional. I've only used solid wire and stranded wire, and I hate stranded wire so much: having to tin everything manually, having blobby bits of tinning that don't go cleanly through things, risking a...

SOLVED My favorite kind of problem: Intermittent (Conqueror Fuzz)

I had red and black wires soldered to + and -. I had red and black wires soldered to A and K. Guess what I did wrong? Ugh. I still have no explanation for the primary issue that caused me to have to ship this internationally twice, but at least I have resolved the secondary issue that I...

SOLVED My favorite kind of problem: Intermittent (Conqueror Fuzz)

Never mind, I figured it out. I'll say more later, but I need to strike while the iron is hot at the moment.

SOLVED My favorite kind of problem: Intermittent (Conqueror Fuzz)

It's been a while since I've been this stumped. I built a Conqueror Fuzz for a friend. It worked fine. I shipped it to him and it was DOA. It worked in bypass; LED came on when engaged but no sound. Basic remote troubleshooting (correct power? correct jacks? volume up? etc.) didn't resolve...

    Peachy fran

There are a couple different variants. LM386N-1 and LM386N-3 are rated for 15v. The LM386N-4 can go up to 22v. I have one of the -4's in cheesy guitar amp running at 18v and it seems to work. https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm386.pdf Nice pedal! I don't know the Peachfuzz very well, but am...

    Cool. Rad case design.

DEMO Marshall Tube Pre-amp build 🤘🏼

That's cool. I've never messed with tube stuff, figuring I'd zap myself. And from the size of those parts, it looks like they're running at "real" voltage. How do you keep the tubes cool in there? Or is that not a huge deal?

    Zen(ish)

I'm a little hesitant to give out too much advice on chemicals because I'm not a chemist or medical professional and imagine that there are a lot of things that could go wrong, so don't try this at home, use in a well ventilated space, etc. There were actually several attempts, and I wasn't...

    Zen(ish)

Every once in a while I do the electronic equivalent of eating the leftovers that are still hanging around the refrigerator. This is basically a Mahayana Drive, but made from whatever I had on hand, and therefore missing all of the specialty things that would probably really make it a Zen Drive...

Keen to build a testing box, but something I'm battling to find answers for...

The equivalent of the wires going to the jack in your image would all be in your test box. Inside my test box, I have two 1/4" jacks and a power jack. The audio jack grounds are grounded to the DC jack ground, and additional wires extending in/out/9V+/ground come out of it to connect to a board...

    I don't know jack

Same. I used to scuff sand them a bit, and that also helps, but I don't even bother any more since I got to the "acceptance" phase of allowing the iron to linger.

    I don't know jack

I also use the Switchcraft style open frame metal ones. When I first started out with pedals I got some of the enclosed plastic ones with kits, and I melted a lot of them and the lugs don't inspire a ton of confidence. My skill level is probably higher now and I wouldn't melt as may, but the...

The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald

The one that failed was pot-secured. This one is vero, and my usual [cheesy?] technique for that is to put a piece of duct tape in the bottom for insulation and then hot glue the board to it. It's reversible if necessary (ask me how I know) but still reasonably secure. I didn't realize that...

The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald

I don't know for sure. I don't make pedals for sale, but I do occasionally make them for friends, and the last one didn't work after shipping. I haven't been able to do an autopsy, but there's nothing obviously wrong from the photos. My guess is that it's a broken solder joint or wire, and...

The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald

This is my latest pedal. It's a take on a Big Muff, but with op-amps on the input and output and an active tone stack with variable mids, designed by dylan159 and built on stripboard. The things I was mostly doing with this were 1) making a white-on-black design and 2) starting to use stranded...

    Nutty Fuzz Mockup Pedal

This is cool. Here is the original Ugly Face schematic from Tim Escobedo: This is the one I made: https://dunningkrugerfx.com/toynbee It's built on a board from Super-Freq Adding some stuff for an expression pedal seems like a cool idea.

I need an Octave up delay pedal

I realize that this isn't exactly the same thing, but I put an insert on my last delay, right before the delay gets mixed back in, so I can put whatever I want on the delay line. It obviously takes up more real estate/power/etc, but it will get real freaky.
