Should I let my pregnant wife help me populate PCBs?

I wouldn't risk her being around tools that you've touched after handling solder, it might have an effect. It should be ok for her to drill enclosures and mount hardware though, in another room away from fumes. Source: my ass - I'm not a doctor :) Maybe she can help sort out your inventory...

Which soldering iron do you like?

Joe from Grey bench Electronics uses and recommends this. Intriguing that it automatically sets the temp

SOLVED Duo-Phase Ticking (mainly when left side is engaged)

There are tons of modulation pedals on the market and none of them tick. What magic are we missing?

SOLVED Duo-Phase Ticking (mainly when left side is engaged)

You should ground every shielded wire at this point because the shield left ungrounded is an antenna for noise.

SOLVED Duo-Phase Ticking (mainly when left side is engaged)

AFAIk you should only ground the shield at one end and that's at the jacks, where it actually goes to ground

SOLVED Duo-Phase Ticking (mainly when left side is engaged)

Did you ground the shield on one side only (the jack sleeve)? Did you use shielded wire for all in/out wires on all jacks?

SOLVED Duo-Phase Ticking (mainly when left side is engaged)

Shielded wire is simply wire with a metal braid around it. The braid has a lot of mass so captures the ticking and then sends it to ground (if you ground it :) Just like a guitar cable.

Which soldering iron do you like?

I had tone of issues with that cheapo station. Mine takes at least 5 minutes to come up to temp, it has no recovery so it gets cold super easily. Good only for a couple of pots in a guitar but for PCBs I wouldn't recommend it.

Blu Tack vs Blue Painters Tape

Blob of blue tack ( I can only find craft paste here, it's white and not too sticky) o the bench. For components that don't move like resistors and diodes I press one edge of the PCB onto it, the other edge sits on the bench. Just enough so it doesn't move around. I Put masking tape over...

    Sunflower Fuzz (Analogman Surface Ge)

The input cap is where I usually intervene. Drop the value for less wooliness. I just find it easier to tweak at the input. You can put a couple of caps on a toggle or use a blend knob. You can also increase/decrease the other two caps for more/less bass but I find that less effective. You can...

    Muffin man

Do we know which songs Frank used his Muff on? I don't associate him with fuzz tones, somehow. I know surprisingly little about his gear considering how much of a fan I am. I mean I can almost sit through Thing Fish. Almost.

    Sunflower Fuzz (Analogman Surface Ge)

I found that most transistors work in this circuit. It's very forgiving. Just bias it to where it sounds good to you and maybe play around with the input and output caps and the volume pot to adjust how bassy it is.

Taqueria Overdrive PCB - Available Now!

Be thankful we have build docs at all haha. I know nothing but usually you bias JFETs to half the voltage supplied so in this case 9V. Misbias to taste for fun tones.

    Sunflower Fuzz (Analogman Surface Ge)

For germanium shoot for Q1 HFE 80, Q2 hfe 120, leakage below 100uA. Bias Q1c to 0.7V, Q2c to 4.5V (those will be negative if you use PNP) and adjust by ear. I've had good results with AY33-AY34s but that is what I have available to me. Part number is not important. For silicon you can use both...

Random Helpful Gizmos Thread - Share Yours!

I can see how it's useful for wiring to a footswitch or pots that go into a guitar, stick them in and solder, but for anything attached to a PCB I can't imagine it.

Any cool mods for Soul Vendor? Bias pot? More useful tone pot?

It's not weird, the MKI, MKII and MKIII are all completely different circuits.
