Test to make sure both the caps and IC's will fit in those before you lock em down. Some of the fatter leads don't fit in those. Resistors and most but not all diodes fit in those and caps generally have fatter leads than resistors. You will probably want to get IC sockets for future builds but...

Wish I could give you an answer but, regardless of what you end up using, I'd definitely recommend putting a socket where they go so you can swap em out until your preference is met. Fwiw, Smallbear has some of the hfe specs on their site for Si NPNs. What's it for?

Also, on the topic of mods. Not sure if I understood it fully, but I believe it was Chuck D. Bones who said that if you replace D1 & D2 with schottkey's the oscillation will be quieter? If I read that right I may put sockets there to try it out.

I'm pretty sure that's what I have. When I hook the footswitch up to my DMM's continuity test it beeps when I depress the switch and is silent when not pressed. Does that sound right? Any idea if my hookups look right for the trimpot?
