Sandspar Fuzz - hissing/fizzling at high fuzz levels

It can help if you reduce the clean input trim a little, this should remove the oscillation. Thinking about it, silicon transistors shouldn’t oscillate as much as germaniums. Validate all components to see if everything is correct. Otherwise share some pics so we can validate as well. I wire...

    Lead Solder Buzz

Have you tried with a probe where the buzz starts? I've found bad working opamps and transistors that way fairly quickly. Recently in a Solaris build the transistor was broken that was in the part where the transformer was located. I had to order the transformer and had already build the pedal...

Wanting to experiment with different caps on the PCB. What's a best practice?

Another way to experiment is of course by breadboarding parts or whole circuits.

Wanting to experiment with different caps on the PCB. What's a best practice?

Your member name sounds dutch so probably these links probably work better: https://www.newtone-online.nl/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=31_37&products_id=409 https://www.musikding.de/20-Pin-inline-socket

Can we turn the Arche boost down more?

I actually prefered the Space charged boosted with the Paragon Mini instead of the Arche boost. :D

Can we turn the Arche boost down more?

So the R7 in the Arche boost with a value of 8,2k defines the minimum volume level? So the 12k (R5) used in the Fordoble on the boost side has a lower minimum volume compared to the Arche boost? I’m curious whats changed in the boost side of the Electric Lightning pedal compared to the Arche...

    Soul Drive test point

I would be interested to know what the bass switch does on the v2 Plimsoul? I skipped the switching of the soft clipping diodes because it doesn’t remove the low end focus of the pedal.

    Soul Drive test point

You must increase C100 and C101 to 220uF to provide enough filtering to connect the hard clipping diodes to vref instead of ground. Vref should sound more saturated. I’m not sure if a switch would be so beneficial. You can use 220uf in both situations of course and experiment with it. As...

    Soul Drive test point

You can connect the clipping diodes either to ground or to vref via tp1. So connect 0R to tp1 for that instead of to the right pad (ground).

    Souldrive (Plimsoul) clipping diodes

Cool, thanks. So the circuit is probably not targeting more open sounding diodes of 850mV compared to 700-750mV. I will give it a try to see how it influences the behavior.

    Souldrive (Plimsoul) clipping diodes

I should receive the Souldrive PCB tomorrow or Friday and got some 1n916 diodes for the clipping section, should be similar to 1n4148 probably. I also want to try some higher mV diodes like BA282/482 or MA856. Might open up the pedal a bit more so I’ll give those a try and see how they respond...

War Scythe - 2N1308 germanium transistors

Mp38A are great, little lower gain. 2n130x and cv7351 are brighter imo. I’m not sure it’s advisable to build this without being able to measure or experiment. At least that’s the fun and essential part for me with fuzz pedals. ;)

War Scythe - 2N1308 germanium transistors

The CV7351 link on eBay is a good option if you aren’t able to measure. I think that in the link to the mods from Chuck you can find the best HFE values

War Scythe - 2N1308 germanium transistors

The CV7351 is a good alternative indeed. I bought some 2n1308 here: https://www.langrex.co.uk/products/2n1308-newmarket-germanium-transistor-x1pc/ Took a while and expensive. I also have a good address for 2n1304 which in practice have a HFE between 70-100 for a very good price. Not sure if...

    Sandspur Fuzz BC183- can’t bias Q2

The pinout of the L is indeed different you can also try 2x BC183C of Around 500hfe or use a BC183B around 250hfe and a BC183C around 500hfe which is similar to the EJ fuzz which can biased cold around 3v or higher of course.

PPCB Two Tone Fuzz and Aion FX Solaris

How do you like the Penumbra? You use it mainly on bass?

PPCB Two Tone Fuzz and Aion FX Solaris

I normally drill the 3pdt lower but already made the markers on the enclosure from the layout from AION. Then I thought it would be nice to add a battery option. Fuzz pedals do sound great with old style batteries. I haven’t connected these builds to my Cioks or Zumas yet so it might work great...

PPCB Two Tone Fuzz and Aion FX Solaris

I increased the Q2 bias but it wasn’t an improvement IMO. So I also have the bias set to the build doc voltages. Do you prefer the transformer switched in? In the Epsilon it fattens the sound and improves the clean trim IMO. I expect this will also work like that in the Solaris and that the...

PPCB Two Tone Fuzz and Aion FX Solaris

I just finished a Solaris build with the GT402B which @DeadAirMD acquired and send them to me! I’m waiting for the 42TL019 to arrive from Retroamplis. I’ve build the Epsilon with BC183C and I really like how the transformer behaves. It also works great in the Tactical fuzz. Love the chunky and...

    Sunflower Fuzz (Analogman Surface Ge)

Check the Solaris or Epsilon from Aion, it features the clean trim and low end.
