I built the adult-sized one, and it took me ages to get it dialed in, so I second the suggestion of doing that; twiddle some trimmers, experiment with LDR placement (be careful, though)…

BC108 would be Q2, and the 404 would be Q1. I would recommend building the circuit with sockets so you can audition different transistors…
