I've been making progress on my latest round of builds, but with most of them, I tend to stop once the PCBs are populated and save them all for final wiring and assembly at the end. I could tell about halfway through the 6-Band EQ (slider version) that there was no stopping halfway, mostly due to the layers and how many things needed to be connected before the final connection of layer one to layer two. So, I decided to just wrap it all up today, and I couldn't be more pleased!
I decided to build this because I bought a BOSS GE-7 last year and it was so annoyingly noisy that I ended up selling it. I love the IDEA of an EQ pedal on my board, though, so I figured why not take a shot at building my own. I had Tayda powder coat and drill the enclosure, and I used the PedalPCB faceplate, so this is definitely one of the most professional-looking builds I've done. The only slight hiccup was accidentally ordering some 1-watt 24k resistors, so there was a little finagling to get them to fit between their neighboring caps and ICs, but a little creative bending of the legs and it all worked out, even if they look sort of funny on the PCB.
The most important thing, by far, is that this this is WHISPER-QUIET. Like, it's an absolute night-and-day difference from the BOSS pedal. I don't know if I just got a clunker GE-7 or what, but this is the EQ I was hoping for when I bought the BOSS.
This is also the first pedal I've finished that's not a boost/drive/overdrive/distortion/fuzz. I wasn't sure how it would go with no noise to hide behind, but it turned out pretty great!
The only remaining issue is that the console-style slider caps I ordered are too big for the spacing here, so if anyone has any recommendations on good GE-7-style caps for these sliders, I'd love to hear them!
