Amp? Or this?

New 68 Plexi pedal from UAD.

I've been considering this for the rare times I want to have a Plexi sound.

I bought an Origin 20H and it was pretty nice (albeit unintuitive how to get a good plexi sound out of it).

But I just don't have room from a dedicated amp that I rarely play.

I've heard a lot of good things from these UAD amp pedals. Thoughts?

I think it really depends how you’d use it. I picked up Amplitube 5 for substantially less than the UAD pedals, and the emulations in that are pretty mind boggling. Including a range of Marshalls.

About time. I'm surprised they didn't release the Marshall version when they did the Fender and Vox ones.

That Dream '65 gets good reviews. I wish they made one that offered both Marshall and Fender. I wonder if the internals are different at all--I assume it's all software driven.

Pretty sure it's all software, that's UAD's schtick. But it's a very good schtick. I've been impressed with all the UAD stuff I've been using.

I think you should add it to the Wish List, MW, then while we wait for it to be in the shop, you build all the PIAB circuits that are currently available and have them read to compare with the "Lion King" (— there, @Robert, I've already got it named for you.)

[EDIT: bummer, just saw the "software" comments]

Literally build the preamp section of robrob’s marshal amp into a pedal. It’s crazy good and blows away the MIAB pedals that I’ve played.

I've started using the Blackstar Amped 2 and love it. It's a 1w/20w/100w amp on the floor when you need speakers. Otherwise unplug it and run it to an XLR out, or stereo outs, or USB out. Delay, mod, and reverb are decent. Effects loop. Even has a couple of 500ma 9v outs for outboard stuff. I added a compressor out front and it's now my whole rig.

How does the origin sound? On paper it looks like the perfect, inexpensive pedal platform.
That’s all the origin is good for in my personal opinion and Marshall should’ve marketed it as such. I take great issue with Marshall trying to pass this off as “plexi” sounding. It has a cathode and cold biased el34 power amp section, that when pushed, has crossover distortion. That’s not plexi sounding at all.

Edit: @MichaelW I think you’d be better off trying to get a plexi sound from a pedal rather than the Origin on its own. It just doesn’t do it based on what I said above. Marshall did some wonky shit in the preamp section too but, that’s a rant for another day.

Listening to the UAFX engineer talk about it got me excited for it.
I plan to get one later. Currently still enjoying my Dream65.

Imagine how that UAD pedal would sound plugged into a real Plexi......
Funny you ask! A friend of mine did that, a Plexi-Pedal (Martin Plexitone) into a clean Plexi. He said it's the same sound but much more controllable on stage.
