Any cyclists out there?

Just an update after my last post with a picture from yesterday. I got everything done, but stripped HexLock preload nut. Luckily had completely new HexLock SL axle for replacement. Rear tyre taping leaks and hold air for few hours, and with it I was able to ride here in north.

What a treat it was to ride with this view considering it’s few kilometers to the town centre.

is that just near where you live? @JohnnyCreepy

I miss living in the woods lol, I'm close to it now but I am less mobile (and should just get spares for all my fat tire e bike stuff I can carry) so big adventures are something to work up to

Used to commute across Edinburgh on my old mountain bike and up in hills for fun. Didn’t have a car then so main way to get around.
Then moved to leeds and got feed up of being overtaken, so tyres got progressively slicker… till I won a Raleigh special products division steel frame that was too big for me and two sets of campag parts - it was a good bike, again commuting. One accident that ended up with me in hospital and back wheel written off. (Not my fault, pedestrian walked out in front of me without looking, many cracked ribs)

Then found a 1992 Eddie Merckx super corsa on eBay - Columbus SL or SX 3x9 gears, guy lived about 100m from me so walked over to get it - he had used it till the campag parts wore out and then baulked at replacement cost - I had lots of spares!
It’s good, except rear wheel is heavy as… and…
It’s too racy and clipping in makes it all less fun. That and kids mean I’ve not been on it for yonks.
I’ve stolen my wife’s bike the last few times out (with my saddle) - flat tyres and more relaxed geometry def much nicer

Anybody looking for a parts bike to put together? I have a frame, fork, stem, handlebars, and seatpost that are just sitting around unused with no use for them. I can grab pics and details tonight if anyone is interested, just looking to cover shipping to get them out of here, otherwise they're going to the recyclers.

I was just visiting my hometown up in north and pic was taken there. Now I’m living in the flattest area of my country which I find little bit uninspiring most of the time. I rode dirt/street mtb & bmx from my teens to early adulthood, but the need for jumps, speed, drops etc hasn’t gone anywhere. Being able to bunnyhop has saved me countless times, even on a roadbike! Or maybe I wouldn’t get into those situation without my background as a burden? :D

You’re in Chicago, no?
Just chain it up in the right neighbourhood and it’ll be gone (if no one here wants it).

Can’t say if I’m interested from that description, but I definitely wanna see your junk!

So I'm not a huge cyclist, but my dad is, and he keeps a bike at each of his kids' houses so he can ride when he visits, and he swapped the frame out on the bike that he keeps at my house. What I've got:
  • 2011 Fuji Connoisseur frame
  • Nashbar Carbon 1" threaded fork
  • Nitto Technomic Deluxe stem
  • UNO Alloy handlebars
  • Fuji Sport ZM seatpost
I have the shipping box the new frame came in, so I could box this up and ship it wherever if anyone wants it.

do you have community bike recycling in the US? We've got it here, wee social value companies who take old bikes, repair and sell them on cheaply.

I'm gonna pass, but that recyclery sounds like a great option if you don't get a taker.

On a separate note, anyone have a good rec for trunk mounted bike racks? I'm itching to try out some rides that require a bit of driving to get to, and would love to not anxiously look over my shoulder the entire drive to make sure my bike hasn't fallen off and caused a massive pile up on the freeway.

I've got a Hyundai Elantra, so my mounting options are fairly limited and I think a trunk mount might be the most logistically feasible. Curious if anyone has experience with a mount that they've enjoyed and felt comfortable with.

This post is biased by non-carbon bikes with steel frames and suspension. :D

My mate had Thule (or look-a-like) trunk mount rack, but it wasn’t sturdy enough and caused slight cosmetic damage to his car. He opted to hitch rack and new car with a hitch.

Last weekend I loaned my relatives hitch mount Thule rack for two bikes. It was really good and reliable when driving ~80-90mph with windy weather. I need to buy my own.

How about aftermarket hitch? Some of em are relative easy to install with few bolts.

And other topic, what tubeless sealant you guys use? I bought OKO sealant from farmers market meant for tracktors and off roaders. It’s cheaper and has some bigger rubber pieces than bike sealants so win-win!

I've used trunk mount, hitch mount, and roof racks. They were all great at holding bikes. The trunk racks are a little bit of a hassle to rig up, you can't access the trunk when it's on, and it's got the highest risk of scuffing up your car. On the plus side, they're cheap and relatively universal fit, so it's not hard to find a used one.

This style was my favorite.
