Any Metalheads Here?

Anybody for Earthless? Stepkid turned me onto them and lately Cowboys and Aliens have rocking my old ass ears.
Definitely a lover of hard rock to heavy metal way before the youngsters tore apart heavy metal into hundreds of sub-genres. Symphonic Pagan Viking Folk Black Metal anyone?

After my workout this morning I’m officially putting Meshuggah in the same category as Cannibal Corpse. One or two songs are fine, but I can’t get through a whole album. They have some good stuff though. Either not my cup of tea or too much of a good thing…

I wouldn’t say I’m a metalhead. But I dig Tool, NIN, Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne, Black Sabbath and some other heavier stuff.

Can’t stand Metallica though. I’ve tried to like it, but I just can’t. One of those bands everyone seems to like, but I just don’t get it. And I guess that turned me off of other similar “chugga chugga” bands.

Too each their own though. Some of the nicest, kindest, most genuine people I’ve ever met are metalheads.

I’m a true metal head at heart, but I’ve never had a true desire to play metal in a band. Been in plenty of them, not a single metal band.

Definitely a true metalhead and do play in a metal band. Living the suburban dad dream.

I think without that I doubt I'd be so into building pedals, amps, and guitars. I'd have way too much gear and nowhere to play it.

Certainly not a metalhead, but I enjoy metal in a general sense. I don’t like all of it, but it’s generally enjoyable to me.
Ironically most of my favorite “metal” music is by non-metal bands though.

Dat right hand picking technique. Back when I was playing bass in Dimidium I felt like I barely had room to breathe between all those triplets and 16th notes.

Nowadays I look back and I'm like...shit I could a added a little fill there. Wtf was I thinking.

I like instrametal, there’s really not enough of it, because most modern-metal vocalists turn my stomach… 🤮.
To each their own, of course!
There is a fair amount, you just have to dig. @Kroars Russian circles I’ll have to check out pelican, conquering dystopia if you are a Jeff loomis fan , early Flux conduct, pomegranate tiger, vitalism, wide eyes, if you want I can throw specific albums out there.. because some of them are hit and miss for me even.

Re Russian Circles, really dig Brian Cook’s use of pedals;
and I think Pelican may have been recommended to me before but I’ve not listened to it yet — thanks for that, Kroars!

Thanks to Paradox916, too, for suggestions.

I like Steve DiGiorgio’s playing, for example, but he’s been in so many bands I can never remember which of his more obscure projects were purely instrumental — so I haven’t listened to him as much as I’d like.

Definitely something in tthe Chicago water-supply.
