Any new concerts you're looking forward to (formerly 2023 concerts)

Saw HEALTH and Carpenter Brut a few days ago. Good show. Weird crowd.
A few decades ago my old band played a show with HEALTH at an abandoned icehouse turned diy venue for like 40 people. It totally caught me off guard a few years back when someone brought them up- I had no idea they became any more popular.

Nice. They seem to be doing pretty well. sold out the venue(2500-3000,maybe more?) on a Wednesday in Nashville.
The records vs live show is kinda akin to the pretty hate machine record vs live. a lot more guitar driven and less polished, but still pretty tight.

Going to Northwest Terror Fest tonight! Gonna try to get there in time for Great Falls at 6:15. I might take the light rail up from the south--hopefully there are no issues with the last couple trains back 😧

An old friend and fellow Soul Coughing fan bought me a ticket for Mike Doughty in PDX next week. Not sure how much I enjoy his solo material... that band is 95% about the drummer and bassist for me. I guess I'll find out, should be better than an Anthony Keidis concert.

Reactions: spi
Past:
- Gogol Bordello, always a solid show.
- Frank Turner/Descendents. Got to take one of my 7yo twins to his first show. He can't wait for Frank to come around again.
- Laura Jane Grace, Lung, and (fellow western Marylander and Duolingo friend) Black Guy Fawkes in Harrisburg, PA. I don't have any pictures because I was playing merch guy for Black Guy Fawkes. Show was worth every penny and then some.

Was hoping to catch Biffy Clyro the other day, work didn't cooperate.

Future:
- Social Distortion (September)
- Frank Turner's Lost Evenings (4 days in September). Night 1 is the first date on Menzingers/Hot Water Music tour, so pretty stoked. @CroasmunEngineeringLabs, guess I'll see you there.
- Sex Pistols (September, rescheduled from last year)

Evergreen:
My buddy Jason Teach, who plays locally every weekend. The kids love going to see him, so he's always on the schedule.

I’m seeing Rickshaw Billy’s Burger Patrol at Empty Bottle in Chicago I switched shifts at work so I could come to show but then it was sold out. I came up to the venue anyways and got in $20 at the door. Super pumped. Openers sound check sounded cool

Edit: Show was great. all bands were awesome. my back is killing me.

You've got excellent taste, my friend.
Did you catch Nobro w/ Decendents & Frank? We (speaking for myself & my wife) absolutely LOVE them. You can count the number of fucks they give on zero hands.

Got some tickets this past week or two during the livenation $30 ticket sale
  • Devo @ the Capitol Theatre
  • Claypool Gold (Primus, Frog Brigade, and Claypool Lennon Delirium) @ SPAC
  • James Taylor @ Bethel Woods
  • Toto, Christopher Cross, and The Romantics @ Jones Beach
  • Franz Ferdinand @ The Paramount, Huntington
  • Howard Jones, Wang Chung, Modern English, and the English Beat @ Jones Beach
  • John Fogerty and Steve Winwood @ Bethel Woods
Also my sister got Hayley Williams tickets for Forest Hills for us and our parents. She’s a massive Hayley/Paramore fan and seen them at least 25 times over the past 20 years if I had to guess. It’ll be a first for me though. Should be fun. And it’s right before David Byrne plays there (which I plan on getting tix to) so I wouldn’t be all that shocked if he appears to do “What is the Reason for it?”, his recent duet with her from his most recent album.

Without a doubt. I love NOBRO. First saw them at Lost Evenings in Toronto in 2024. If I remember that night well enough, the PA was pretty fucked prior to Frank coming out, but they threw down regardless.

As a personal standing order, never miss an opening band. Alsarah and the Nubatones opened for the Violet Femmes a few years ago. I never would have come across them without get to shows early.

Ha! That's where we first heard 'em, too! Between them, Dirty Nil, and plugged in Frank it was a hell of a night.

Northwest Terror Fest was a good time--checked out some new-to-me bands like Wretched Blessing and Lana Del Rabies, saw some greats for the first time like Innumerable Forms and Barren Path. Worm lived up to the hype, Oranssi Pazuzu and Pig Destroyer were fantastic. The real highlight was Black Breath's reunion, which was a massive celebration.

I thought about crossing the border for this…but nah I’m good 😂

It was way way better than a Keidis show. He had another dude on stage supporting him on a Fender Coronado mostly playing tasty little background licks with tremolo and reverse delay. Like... the whole time he didn't turn those off. Sounded good though. I enjoyed the unfamiliar tunes just as much as the Soul Coughing material. Unsurprisingly they ended it with "True Dreams of Wichita" which was really nice in this duo format.

As per usual, I became irritated with the audience, every Soul Coughing tune was met with woos and excitement but not the new stuff. Seriously, the dude already knows you desire/ expect to hear the old shit but show some respect for the whole show, jeebus.

Seeing Muse (with Bloc Party opening) at the Xfinity Center - Mansfield, MA July 18 and seeing Loathe again at the Brooklyn Paramount in September.

As mentioned, I saw Nine Inch Nails and Boyz Noize on the Peel It Back tour in February. That was the show of a lifetime to me.

Saw Loathe at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston last year and was blown away by the sound quality at the venue. Kudos to the sound guy that night, all the bands sounded great.

Dope! Saw them on the first US Peel It Back leg, and it was incredible. Really wanted to go to the NJ show, but even though my girlfriend loves NIN, spending Valentines Day in Newark is a tough sell— she said absolutely no way.
Had a blast in Boston! My friends went to the NJ show and also had a blast, but they said Newark itself sucked lol...

My friends had an extra ticket to see Failure w/ All Under Heaven @ The Space Ballroom in Hamden, CT last night. I never heard them before but I'm definitely a fan now. Very loud show. They alternated who played guitar and bass, at one point they were playing a baritone Danelectro next to a Bass VI. Everything ran through Axe-FX rigs, sounded fantastic.

Cool shows keep getting announced, and I looked at my calendar today and happily realized the rest of the year is looking pretty sweet as far as live music goes. Hoping to get tickets next week for Angine de Poitrine when they come back to Portland in December, but we'll see if those get swooped up by a buncha bots again.
