Australian and New Zealand Builders

have now 18 j201's. tested em.
-0.815 to -1.022
wanted two -0.2 for my desolate fuzz but no.
Idss or Vp/Vgs(off)?

either way, sounds like those are within the datasheet specs for J201s (check the datasheet for your brand of FETs)

you could also attempt to breadboard the circuit and test selected JFETs in that manner to confirm they sound/work the way you want them to.

I dont have a breadboard setup, and the desolate circuit is currently built to PCB. Just sockets for the 201s.
I have been able to get it to sort of work with the ones I did have on hand, but it doesnt work 100%

I guess I need some more 201s.

Why do you need the specific measurements for the desolate fuzz?

I honestly just threw two random SMD ones in there and it seems to work fine. That thing is supposed to sound bad.

FWIW I just threw two random ones in mine, and I don't think it's working quite as intended with low output single coils. Anything stronger and it's fine (plus my strat has a preamp in it so I can use that, or a Clandestine preamp before the Desolate fuzz), but "it's supposed to sound bad" is not a great response because it's supposed to sound bad in a specific way that is nice, not in an unusable way.

Edit: I don't know how picky it is exactly, so breadboarding might be a good alternative if you can do it, though.

Well yeh, it is supposed to sound like shit, but at the moment the volume control works fine, the switches work, but the onset basically only works between 12 and 5oclock and is gated af even when crush is off.
There's some discussion about it, apparently it wants cherry picked jfets and mine are all garbage

Tried boosting it with uber drive and cobalt, I am using a stock Squier tele so I'm sure those pickups are average but not much better sound out of the desolate.
Just tried my guitar with fishmans, not much difference, just louder.

Hey I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just asking the question. Trying to see what the issue is in my own way but I'm pretty exhausted.

Could you put r4 and r6 on trimmers and vary voltage until the jfet's are biased?

It certainly came off as rude.

Chuck's post on what I'm looking for in the desolate fuzz, maybe you somehow lucked out. I can see if I can pull R4 and 6, I do have some trimmers here.

The Fairfield manual reads
The ONSET control affects interstage gain, which happens
to mimic an inverse gate threshold. Turn it up for more
saturation, longer sustain. Down for sputtery ad-lib farts.

T Simple output treble cut.
G Affects amplifier bias. Open or Saturated. Allows variations in distortion grain. Note: the difference becomes less noticeable as the ONSET is turned up.
C Feedforward. Crushes your signal to shit. ONSET controls the amount of compression.
But I basically need the onset at 5oclock to get any signal out. The demos of the pedal can turn onset down and get a change in the sound but I'm getting nothing

Does anyone here know where I can buy a sturdy clear coat in a spray can?

I’ve tried some from Bunnings but they chip with moderate use.

I've never seen $2 shipping from Tayda. But I'm happy with $8-12.00 shipping. I missed a parcel today because I went down the street for lunch. It was only posted 2 days ago!

I recently bought a guitar with dogear P90s, and like many guitars which use these pickups I wanted to get some shims to raise the pickups closer to the strings. I have bought shim packs from Lollar before but his website wouldn't work for me - and it was going to be stupidly expensive anyway so I didn't mind too much. Next I tried Mojotone, but with our crappy dollar and exorbitant shipping rates to get some from there was going to cost as much as a new P90 cost.

Shipping from the USA is just too expensive to consider any more. So I went down to the local art supply store and bought some thick black acid-free card and cut my own shims out of that. Actually worked out well.

My day job is seriously hampering my pedal tinkering. As such, I've listed several PCBs up for sale that I'd bought for future builds that I'm realistically not going to get to any time soon. Mostly from PedalPCB, a couple from AionFX. Listed on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree. Hit me up if any of you local builders want to grab some. This is what I've got left; some have already been snapped up.
