Blue Sheep

This is a fun build which is based on the Blue Pilot by dylan159 over at FSB.
That is an attempt to re-engineer the Blues Driver to be simpler and cheaper to build, using IC op-amps instead of a discrete op-amp configuration, and common parts. There are a few of these projects and they're all really fun to experiment with or to use as a base for further modding.

I bread-boarded this before doing the PCB design, and found that splitting the dual A100K into separate pots resulted in a more useful pedal. Plus you don't need to bother with a dual pot! I tried a bunch of diode clipping options but there wasn't anything which made any impact on the timbre in a useful way.

Build-wise, it's pretty simple. Nothing which could trip you up, though I did forget to solder two legs from a couple of resistors which threw me off for a few minutes.

Sound-wise, it sounds like a Blues Driver built using IC op-amps! I love stacking low-med gain pedals together but find that pedals with transistor boost stages colour the tone and raise the noise level, so the Blue Sheep is great for this! The split boost and gain stages are also useful, you can crank it or use it as a dirty boost, or in between..

I'm really happy with how the pedal theme worked out, the photos may not be great, but the result is what I was envisioning. Simple and functional.

Leaving the best to last.. the schematic is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, which means you can reuse it as long as you attribute it and reshare. So I am resharing it here! You will find the schematic and gerber for the PCB! If you like it, let me know!

Very handsome. A great interplay between silliness and austerity. Were the earlier versions the breadboards you mentioned, or did you take them through the PCB stage?
V1 was the dual pot version, but I never really felt the need to produce it. V2.0 was a different layout. Technically this should be version 1.0.1 but I’m not writing software 😂

I’m still fresh in PCB design so it takes a few passes to get something half decent which I’d accept to be seen in public..

Looks fabulous!
Did you draw the sheep yourself? I love how it's one simple unbroken line yet exudes so much character!

Thanks for sharing!

Love that you split the dual-gang, I'm hitting MW up for a PCB.

Also, have you discussed in another thread the origin of "SheepyLove"?
If so I've missed it and would enjoy a link.
If not, care to divulge its nascence here?

Sheep glove is just a silly name with a nod to my kiwi background.

I was on a business trip with a Texan colleague and we were shooting the shit about kiwis and sheep so I did a quick google search for sheep love. I found the domain name for sheepylove was available and bought it right away (drunken purchases, right?).

Back at the hotel, I built the website which is there right now (www.sheepylove.com ), though it’ll be swapped for a proper site if I ever make anything worth selling..

I’m trying to make all the pedal names sheep related. Just another silly thing to do. People take themselves too seriously at times, so we need to take the piss from ourselves!

I hear rumblings upstairs, I think I ... you just woke my wife, 3:30am, I blame you. 😹

I hope you keep the site up as is, in perpetuity.

Do you happen have the Gerbers for the faceplace? Not sure if there is one available, or you made it yourself. If not, no worries!
@MichaelW @iamjackslackof The sheep are not freely distributable on the faceplate, so I can make a gerber of it without the sheep (the fonts are free use) or if you wait an indiscriminate amount of time, I will freehand a sheep and redo it..

I liked the sound of the Blue Pilot compared to the BD-2 in the video. If any more sheepy boards make it out into the wilderness let me know! I'd like to pick it up.
The Gerbers are around if you want to make your own PCBs. Else I think I have some, maybe Michael has a spare as well? Depends on where you live
