Blue Sheep

Ok, wow, this is a whole new and exciting world for me!

Any specific things I should select for thickness, layers, etc.?

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to praise the pedal itself. Great work! What does splitting the dual gain into 2 pots do? Is the Pre like a boost into the Gain?

Honestly, the core reason is to make it easier to build 🤣 dual gang is always annoying to get.

The circuit has two gain stages, each with one half of the dual gang. By splitting them, you can do exactly what you mentioned, adjust the amount of boost going into the second stage. Or the other way round, less boost into a louder second stage.

I also went to JLCPCB and ordered this as a PCB. 5 was the minimum order so I will have 4 to give away. Let me know who wants one!

Interesting! Nice build. Good write-up by dylan159.

Since the first two opamps make all of the distortion, it would be interesting to try different opamps. LM308, anyone?

It's good to know that the sheepylove reference is a joke and not a lifestyle preference.
Oh you don't really know Kiwis, do you? :ROFLMAO:

I'm impressed with how much simpler the board looks. I might see if I can do a Vero of this - I've done more complex so it should be possible. I want to try this. Plus of course it needs a bass pot.

I might be interested in a vero layout!

Well I'm just about to crack on with that now!

I'm not sure what the E6 you guys are referring to is, but as a photographer it always means a colour transparency process. When I shot film it was around a 50/50 split between B&W and E6 transparency. If you can shoot E6 well then digital is a breeze.

I have noticed that transistor boost thing too - I love my transistor based boosts but they do seem to add more noise that I'd like, being anal. That's why I have been using the Dane's boost (slightly modified) a bit. It's not quite as cool a sound as say a Red Rooster but it's still very usable and it's quiet.

At first I was hesitant about splitting the gain pot, but given the description of how it works I'm sold. I have an Aion PCB for a Blues Drive, chosen because it has the option of adding a bass pot (!) but I haven't been able to work up the enthusiasm to build it yet. The Aion PCB gives the option of building it as quite a modified version which I have been intending to try. This Blue Sheep looks far more enticing, interesting and cuddly. I just hope I won't stink of lanolin afterwards.

I wonder if I should add a bass pot at the first gain stage or the second...

Should work. If any errors let me know! I have put Volume 1 to ground but it's easy enough to send it to VREF next to the 100µF cap on the board. I hope this is ok with you, Mr Szukalski.

Loving it! The dual or 2x pot debate is personal choice. I like having the flexibility of control over both stages, but I also like the simplicity of less knobs.

E6 are component value standards. It means you can buy a standard resistor/cap set and be done with it. You don’t need to buy a 17.497k resistor for a single build which you’ll never use again.

I do love digital photography but I also miss going to the labs. I'd bump into fellow photographers, have a chat with the lab owners, see what other shooters were doing. God photography as a profession has changed. And not in a good way recently. Hence the time I have for making pedals!

I'll probably build this this week. If I like it I may try with a dual pot for gains and try a bass pot. I suspect putting it on the first gain stage is the way to go. It's surprising the difference a good bass pot can make. My Gretsch Duojet has a lot more low frequency content than my Les Paul, which may surprise some players. Being able to tune the overdrive to the guitar can make a huge difference. You can usually tweak the high end to suit - why not the low end?

Hmm, I'm waiting on 100nF caps currently (they are on the way) but I should have everything else for it, can I switch them for something else? I've got plenty of 68nF and some bigger ones too. The third one might be a filter, I'm not quite sure?
