BOXING DAY BLOWOUT

Nothing this year worth getting out of bed for.

So it's a blowout — None of the local music shops are having any Boxing-day sales that are more than a few bucks off, if that.

Years ago when I bought my bass amp, EA Micro 300, I went to the shop in the cold dark winter morning at 6:30am and there was still a couple dozen door-crashers already there freezing their butts off for at least a half-hour before I arrived. When they finally opened the doors, everyone rushed inside to
A) GET WARM
B) Get to the guitar or pedal they wanted.

Only one other customer rushed to the Amp Room with me and luckily he wasn't after the same thing I was.

Looking for Boxing-Day deals online today...
Kinda blown away by how much prices overall have escalated. 😵‍💫

I've never even heard of Boxing Day. What does the "Boxing" refer to?
And no, I'm not seeing anything good anywhere. But the 2022 Black Friday sales have been pretty epic.
Especially some of the stuff from Squeir. How many people grabbed the $219 Classic Vibe 60's strat? Insane price for a great guitar.

One of the relatively local non-national chain music stores had a sale that was pretty decent, but by the time I found out about it, all the good stuff was long gone. Rest of the rest is not worth putting on my longjohns and scraping off the car, lol.

Here in Australia Boxing Day is best known for the Boxing Day Test. It's an international cricket match held at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground - a holy venue for Aussies) between Australia and whichever international team is on tour in Australia at the time. A test match is a 5-day game of cricket which often doesn't actually make it to 5 days (and looks likely to finish in four days this year) and is the ultimate format for cricket. There are shorter forms of the game but for now test cricket is the traditional and best format.

The Boxing Day Test is the highlight of the year for many Aussie and international cricket fans. Depending on who is playing against Australia it can attract huge crowds on opening day. This year the touring team is South Africa, who in the past have been quite a match for Australia. But this year they are a shadow of themselves and the match is rather one-sided.

I've heard of it, but never known of anywhere in the states that observed or celebrated it

Don't you have boxing day in the US? I thought all western countries observed boxing day. Here in Australia Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years day are all public holidays, although shops might be open on any of them (being open on Christmas day is rare). The only two days of the year pubs can't be open are Christmas day and Good Friday.

No Boxing Day holiday here, and pubs can open any day they want, most don't on Christmas though, Good Friday is not a Holiday either for most, but generally most companies give a personal Holiday you can take when you want

Boxing Day used to be a stat holiday in Canada, but not any more. Now it’s just another Black Friday style consumption day.

Never seen much in the ways of Boxing Day deals here in the US, but Barnes and Nobels had crazy deals when I went yesterday. 50% off all games and all hardcover books— it was incredibly hard for me to resist the urge to buy Geddy’s Big Book of Bass for only $40; alas, I’ll have to wait another year or two to get that book.
