...not that there's any bebop in this thread. Just trying to use an original title.

I put my back out recently, and it took a while before I was able to sit down and finish this pedal. I had everything done but the final soldering, and then I had to wait till I could sit at a desk again. Which was a tad frustrating.

I had a few MMBFJ201s that I'd soldered to adaptor boards a while back, and I tested them and found a pair that were in the right spec for this pedal. Q1 Idss = 680uA, Q2 Idss = 490uA. Tested with Peak Atlas DCA75.

Then when I tried bias them I couldn't get close till I remembered that the Sag pot needed to be ZEROED not maxxed. After that, easy peasy, 6V on each trimmer and Bob's yer uncle.

I also used an SMD 2N2222A which worked perfectly but since the PCB was made for a tin can 2222 I had to bodge up a different way of socketing the adaptor which is less secure than the neato way I did the 201s, which I copied from someone here a long time back. Since the pedal is probably for home use only I probably won't bother trying to make it tougher.

How does it sound? Good. Very good. From a dirty boost to a pretty gnarly almost-distortion, and usable for the whole range. With the Sag knob maxxed and the Drive up high, it gets quite spitty and almost-fuzzy, which is a lot of fun. A wide variety of useful sounds here, and I can recommend this one - if you're intrigued by this pedal; get it, you won't regret it.

I’m on month 5 of recovery from a herniated disk. I feel your pain! Great build and congrats on healing up enough to have some fun!

Ow, yeah, there's not much worse than spinal pain. Fortunately mine is just stressed because I wasn't taking proper care of it, rest has helped a lot and I'm trying to find ways to do things that are less hard on my back. I'm at the age where I have to take a bit more care, I'm in pretty good shape for my age - better than most, I can still run and I'm pretty active in general - but I ain't getting any younger.

Looks great!
Thx!
Where'd you get the SMD 2N2222A?
I need some for a MAS BazzFuss.
I gambled on these and, having tested a few and used one in a pedal, they're A-OK. Now I have 99 more of them. I'd send you some but I'm in Australia and you might not get them any quicker than just buying them from AliEx. If you spend more than US$5 (shipping excluded) you can get the fast shipping option which usually takes 2- 3 weeks for me.

Keep resting your back!
It's feeling a lot better now, not quite good as new but a big improvement.

I could buy some off you and I'd pay for shipping, I'm in no hurry if you want to get rid of a few — I've got enough on my build-plate to last me a few lifetimes, especially at the rate I go. If MichaelW is a Cheetah, then I'm a sloth.

Or you can experiment with Sziklai pairs and Darlington pairs ... 🤪
... and I'll order some ... thanks for the link.

It's no problem for me to snip 10 off the roll and give 'em away, I'm unlikely to need all 99 of them. And a few bucks for postage by slow boat is also no big deal. But I warn you, the only thing slower than postage to Australia is postage from Australia.

This pedal has stayed in my personal board since I built the first one several months ago… That’s says a lot because there are a lot of builds that sound ok’ish for overdives and they never stay more than a day on the board and I’m slapping another build on there
