Dragons Breath Transistor

What gain should the 2n222a be for the Dragons Breath? I had some spare ones in a bag someone gave me and they read about 160 to 180 on my tester.

You wouldn't need a specific gain they all fall into the low gain range

I'm going to build this and was wondering if using a 2N5088 (much higher gain) would work... has anyone tried higher gain transistors?

I build the Dargons Breath with the 2N2222. The unity is already lower than 9 o'clock, so I would not recommend a higher gain transitor if you need unity gain.

Thanks. I ordered a 2N2222. Will be interesting to compare this booster with my Ge Rangemaster clone (which is noisy).
