If you are a Tone Bender fan like me, then consider making this pedal. Compared to the real deal Keeley pedal, this pedal can react it’s tone well. I used an OC 141 with an hFE of 205. I tried a 2N169 (hFE 57) and a 2N1308 (hFE 270) and I liked the OC 141 best. I settled on the D2J diode, compared to the 1N34A and D18. I noticed that the diode selection also helped keep the pedal more quiet, yet facilitated the clipping.
Also, I had to salvage two IC sockets to help complete the build. I have never been able to safely remove an IC socket, but I found this video. It shows some nice tricks to make socket removal safe and easy.
