I guess if I played a specific music genre, I could pin it down, but I like many. Having been a technician a good bit of my career I see pedals as tools, not every tool fits every job! So, for me my favorite would be the one that does the job at hand, in this case you say "dirt" well that too is subjective.

As far as commerically produced overdrives I have a Barber Gain Changer SR that's in my keep for life list of pedals. The ones I've built that I've been impressed with are the Light Speed and the Zen Drive. I think I prefer the Zen to the Light Speed because it's a little thicker while the Light speed is a really good lower gain drive.

This was high on my list. But I use it more as an enhancer to push other stuff. Sounds fine on its own but thrown into any other dirt it adds the clarity you're looking for. I need to build the mojito. And I've gone for the effectslayouts ache pedal (still in the backlog) rather than the parenthesis. Same idea but leave out the boost.

Zen drive - at least the Tayda PCB versions I’ve built are super fantastic.
On any given day I’d be 50% likely to give a different answer.
(And there is that Wampler Tumnus Deluxe which is the only pedal I own that hasn’t left my board since I bought it years ago that’s calling me a liar from across the room…)
