Think my fav is a line from Skip Tracer by Sonic Youth, it's spoken word over a cool groove.

"Shouting the poetic truths of high school journal keepers"

The lyrics to the whole thing are great, but that line in particular has stuck with me.

Also a big fan of Freak Scene's lyrics (Dinosaur Jr.)
My second favorite SY song, right after Saucer-Like (no surprise that Lee is my favorite member of SY, and Washing Machine us my favorite album of theirs)

Also a big fan of Freak Scene's lyrics (Dinosaur Jr.)

One of my fave J Mascis lyrics (Green Mind), probably because I can relate to this level of indecisiveness, worry and procrastination all wrapped up together:

I've been picking through my thoughts
It’s a shame my judgment rots
And I sure go where I belong
It’s a call that’s tough to make
It could be a big mistake
Can’t you help move it along
If I keep stewing ’bout how I feel
Eventually you'll split, then I won’t have to deal
Sounds like a plan
But it’s kind of lame to let it slide
Knowing either way I haven’t tried
Can’t figure out where it all stands
In the green mind

The lyrics to “Flies on my ****” make me weep every time from their beauty.
Everyone knows Ween's best lyrics are...

Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's over there behind the tree
He's down in the dirt, would ya help him?
I think it's his lung
Mister would you please help my pony?
He's chewin' bark and not the leaves
He's cryin' like a baby, would you help him?
I think it's his lung
Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's down and he ain't gettin' up
He coughed up snot in the driveway
And I think his lung's fucked up
Pony, Pony, Pony
Mister, would you please help my pony?
I think it's his lung
Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's over there lookin' at me
He can't talk because he's a pony
I think it's his lung
Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's over there behind the tree
He's down in the dirt, would ya help him?
I think it's his lung

Many a hand has scaled the grand old face of the plateau
Some belong to strangers and some to folks you know
Holy ghosts and talk show hosts are planted in the sand
To beautify the foothills and shake the many hands
Nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
See a lot up there but don't be scared
Who needs action when you got words
You've finished with the mop then you can stop
And look at what you've done
The plateau's clean, no dirt to be seen
And the work, it was fun

Wow that is some genius level song writing. Especially this part.

"Nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
See a lot up there but don't be scared
Who needs action when you got words"
My favorite Meat Puppet song is "Oh me"

I don't have to think, I only have to do it, the results are always perfect but thats old news.

From the Rivers to the Ocean might be my favorite Bill Callahan song. It was my top played song according to the Spotify end of the year stuff.

We are swimming in the rivers
Of the rains of our days before we knew
And it's hard to explain
What I was doing or thinking before you

Domine vobiscum
Et cum spiritu tuo
Don't you eat my sleazy pancakes
Just for Saintly Alphonzo
They're so light and fluffy white
We'll raise a fortune by tonight
They're so light and fluffy white
We'll raise a fortune by tonight
They're so light and fluffy brown
They're the finest in the town
They're so light and fluffy brown
They're the finest in the town

Hey all you renaissance geniuses
you know we want to see it all
your vaginas and your penises
your feces is
masterpieces

Oh and I'm guilty of all of it
Yeah I'm guilty of all of it
I am taking golden shits
shitting out gold bricks

Elastica's "Stutter" takes on "performance problems" in the bedroom from the perspective of the lead singer and her boyfriend. Pretty unique topic and deserves to be in this thread. Rocking song too!

No need to whine, boy
Like a windup toy you stutter at my feet
And it's never the time, boy
You've had too much wine to stumble up my street
Well, it isn't a problem
Nothing we can't keep between the sheets
Tell me you're mine, love
And I will not wait for other bedtime treats

Is it something you lack
When I'm flat on my back?
Is it something that I can do for you?
It's always someone you hate
Or it's something you ate
Tell me is it the way that I touch you?
Have you found a new lay
And is she really great?
Is it just that I'm much too much for you?
Woah!

Don't feed me a line, boy
I can hear that voice you use upon the phone
And there's no need to be coy
That is something you can do upon your own
Well, it isn't a problem
Nothing we can't solve so just relax
Am I on the wrong train, love?
And will I have to tie you to the tracks?

Is it something you lack
When I'm flat on my back?
Is it something that I can do for you?
It's always someone you hate
Or it's something you ate
Tell me is it the way that I touch you?
Have you found a new lay
And is she really great?
Is it just that I'm much too much for you?

Woah!
I really want you to
Woah!
I really want you to
Woah!

Peccary.....digging some of the stuff you are tossing out there. Built to Spill, Purple Mountains....cool.

Lyrics....

It’s all right to take me down

Between the hook and the line I took

It’s all right to drag the lake

And find the things you love

I'm gonna hit the MJK thing again. This wins the award for "best kidney stone metaphor EVER".

"Momma Sed" by Puscifer

Wake up son of mine,
Momma got something to tell you...

Changes come
Life will have it's way with your pride, son
Take it like a man

Hang on son of mine,
A storm is blowing up your horizon

Changes come
Keep your dignity
Take the high road
Take it like a man

Listen up son of mine,
Momma got something to tell you
All about growing pains
Life will pound away where the light don't shine, son
Take it like a man

Suck it up son of mine,
Thunder blowing up your horizon...

Changes come
Keep your dignity
Take the high road
Take it like a man

Momma said like the rain
(This too shall pass)
Like a kidney stone
(This too shall pass)
It's just a broken heart, son
This pain will pass away.

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see
