My soldering story is a lesson. I ran out of solder and I went to get some more and got tempted by the prices. I found a huge roll for $10 or $15 and figured it would be a great deal, turns out it doesn't do the part where it flows and sticks to the part, its almost like it doesn't have flux in it. The old adage of buy nice or buy twice really applied here.

Not allowed to do litho on shirts at my school anymore bc people wound up breaking a few stones that way lol.
I’ll print a few copies on some pure white stock so I can scan some high res images and get them cleaned up into PNGs or something so I can screen print them in the future if I ever get a setup to do so. I’ll let you know if/when that happens. I’m also gonna be printing an edition of each one— probably on Stonehenge steel grey 90lb stock. I’ll post about those here when the time comes in case anyone is interested
(also have a giveaway/contest planned for early 2024 here that will have some cool prints and other goodies as potential prizes)

My entry is ready.
I think one of the hardest things about soldering is holding everything in the right place while you solder. Early on in my pedal building journey I was soldering some wires to connect the breakout board to the main board I got a few soldered and it moved and one of them came undone. No big deal I think. I hold the wire from the soldering iron in my teeth(terrible idea by the way, never do that) and then I move the wire into place with my fingers but touch some hot solder. Now I reflexively pull away and jab myself on the hand with the soldering iron I'm holding in my teeth. It wasn't a very good time.
Since then I have been thinking of a better way to hold things. I came up with the idea to make a assembly/test platform that would hold things in place/be easy to solder in and have the ability to build the complete pedal in(except for the DC jack which is frustrating that the nuts are on the inside of the pedal). It has a few different positions you can use it in and it doubles as a storage box for your project. I plan on making a few so I can have a few pedals at a time going as I often find I need a part or get stuck trouble shooting.
I changed the size of the enclosure to match the 125B that I think most people build in and made holes that I think will work for most of the 125B builds on this site. The 4 toggles in line are for the switches on the Hydra. I don't think I have all the LED locations but I did include a few options.

A non-pedal-related soldering story but here goes. Several years back, while returning to college for a third time to get my AAS in EE, I was brought on as an intern for a local medical imaging company. Several months into the internship, I volunteered to be lead on the install of a Philips panorama MRI. I have been working in MRI for about a half year at that point. But the panorama is a bit of a unicorn in the medical world. They were only about 220 to 250 ever made. There were only a couple of dozen within the states.
I volunteered because I needed the experience and also no one else wanted to touch it. 3 months past the initial completion date of install and on the third engineer that they had brought in, from Denmark, to help finish the install we ran into another issue. Dozens at this point. This one had us up for a solid week.
If you look at the photo of the scanner attached below, the magnetic field is basically two donut shape fields. The patient table articulates in and out and left and right to bring the portion of the patient being scanned to what is called isocenter.
Additionally, all of the coils used for the scanner attached to the table. There is a wiring harness that articulates with the table under the scanner and connects to electronics on the left side.
After several days of troubleshooting swapping parts etc etc, I grabbed a flashlight, fall to the magnetic field, and started probing around under the magnet.
There was one wire of ~120 broken in the armature. I had to take an iron station into the magnet room, having someone hold it down against the field, and splice that wire.
A 1.0 Tesla magnet is not that strong in terms of MRIs. But when you're holding a soldering iron, trying to splice a 24 to 28 gauge wire under a three-time piece of steel, and every inch of movement engages that gauss line in a different fashion, it ain't any easy.
