Finishing question and PSA powder coat issue

I purchased a champagne Tayda enclosure. I am using UV printed stickers to add my art. Prior to applying the sticker, I'll clean the pedal with isopropyl alcohol to review oils and dirt. When I cleaned the pedal, the finish became very streaky and the streaks would not buff out. I think applied the sticker, messed up, and took it off. I think cleaned the left over adhesive with lemon oil and repeated the isopropyl alcohol. The second application worked, but the pedal still has significant streaks. There also is some adhesive residue from the second application.

Any thoughts on how to remove the streaks? Other Tayda finishes have not had this problem with isopropyl alcohol, but this finish has flaws and behaves like the chromium version. I have thought about removing the sticker and placing another one, but I'll have to wait for that option. I don't have a third sticker.

In the picture, you can see the streaking near the corners and adhesive residue near the "Mag Echo" label.

Thoughts?

Weird! Alcohol really shouldn’t have any effect on powder coating. Makes me think it wasn’t properly baked, or that their powder was a bit off. (But you knew all that!) I doubt mineral spirits will do much of anything, but might be worth a try. Maybe on the base plate first. I’m looking forward to seeing if anyone has a good solution (no pun intended) for this.

I agree with you that the finish does not appear to be done correctly. I’ll give the mineral spirits a test on the base plate. It is worth a shot. Thanks!

If 99% iso is softening the finish they definitely had an issue with bake time/temperature.... I've actually had several enclosures from them susceptible to the same thing.

My two ideas will require a new sticker, as I don't see any way to address the streaks without pulling the current sticker.

1. The easiest thing to do would be to replace it with an opaque version of your graphic.

2. The second route would be adding your own clear coat. You'd obviously have to remove the sticker and all residue (3M Adhesive Remover works better for me than citrus-based removers). I'd then wash it a couple of times with Dawn or a similar dish detergent. Then, if you have a means of baking it, I would. Then clear coat and let it cure at least a week longer than the rattle can's instructions call for... usually 48 hours.

you could hit the enclosure with some heavy duty rubbing compound and a clean rag... Then redo the graphics
