Gig tomorrow and I can't wait

Some of you will remember in my original post about coming home that old friends of mine decided to put together a homecoming gig. We'll it's still happening and it's happening tomorrow night.

There are a load of people coming who I haven't seen in 10 years now. I even have an old friend who flew out from Seattle last week who hasn't been away anywhere in a few years due to the pandemic.

At the minute there are two bands and 7 singer/songwriters playing and it's shaping up to be an excellent night.

We've got a fun but slightly weird set list on the go

Big Balls - AC/DC
Maggies Farm - RATM version
Plush - Stone Temple Pilots
Sober - Tool
Renegades of Funk - RATM

Funk Trio - weird medley of Gin and Juice, california Love and Be Thankful for what you've got.

My Sin - Fun Lovin Criminals
Shakedown Street - Grateful Dead
Hold on, I'm Coming - Sam & Dave
Chamelion - Herbie Hancock
I'd you want me to stay - Sly and the Family stone
Dry The Rain - Beta Band
Aenima - Tool
Laterstinkulfist - Intro to Lateralus, into Stinkfist and back into Lateralus again (It works surprisingly well)

We've been rehearsing for about approx 6 weeks now and have a full brass section for the Funk stuff.

This is board I'm using tomorrow night. I just need to do a bit of cable management.

Signal chain is guitar - OCD - HX Stomp. FX loop 1 is a Jan Ray into Klon and FX Loop 2 is a Deep Blue Delay.

I like to use the HX Stomp for dual amp rigs into IRs with some delay/mod/reverb depending on the patch and available DSP. There's also an expression pedal and wah which will be to the right of my board.

I'll be switching between my PRS and Tele for different tracks for humbucker and single coils.

Can't bloody wait. I'll let you know how we get on. 👍

Thanks gents. I told my other half after the first rehearsal that this is exactly what I've been missing for the last 10 years. Playing really bloody loudly, ideally in front of people enjoying themselves but will happily play to an empty bar these days as long as its loud 🤣

At least I know there will be a lot of folks there tomorrow night and we won't be playing to an empty room.

Are you gonna use your helix or borrowing an amp?

Using the hx stomp straight into the PA and I have my own monitor. It's how I've been running at all the rehearsals and it honestly sounds ace.

I'm using a few patches running a lonestar and DC30 pairing for the cleaner stuff and a Friedman Be100 model for the Tool stuff and stone temple pilots. York Audio IRs, his Mesa 2x12 pack for the Lonestar, Matchless pack for the DC30 and for the dirty stuff 2 x 4x12 IRs in parallel, a mesa oversized and Marshall v30.

If we do keep playing after this gig (we're planning on it) I honestly don't think I'll ever buy another big valve amp now. When we started rehearsing I thought I'd really miss my Tremoverb but I'm enjoying walking in with two guitar cases and a pedal board bag over my shoulder.

I do miss my Princeton for playing at home or taking to my mates house to just jam and I'm kinda leaning towards a Tone Master deluxe reverb at this point.

Holy crap that was the most fun night I've had in 10 years. It was amazing to be playing in a band for a bar full of people again. I'll put a proper post tomorrow but I just wanted to share how the night went.
A fun group photo with most of the members of Armando P reunited after 10 years apart.
