Hurricane Milton now CAT 5

Mandatory evacuations on the West coast of Florida have been ordered!!!
Please leave if ordered to do so. The number of people who drowned in their attics when they couldn't breach the roof to escape during Katrina was disturbing. The amount of zone A land in the Tampa Bay area that would be well under the expected storm surge is staggering.

Katrina was one mean storm..... The company that made my 400 lb BBQ was washed away. Dude lost everything.... :-(

I have tons of family and friends in Florida. It's really sad/frustrating because Florida has a long history of "hurricane parties" so it's hard to get a lot of people down there to take hurricanes seriously......."Oh they ALWAYS say it's gonna be the worst and it never is. I'm not leaving my house, it's not going to be a big deal".

My friends would go an buy a ton of liquor ("amazing" idea to be drunk during a disaster) and would get loaded and play board games by candle light after the power would go out. Fricken "hurricane parties" are going to be the last party some people may have. I wish they cared more .....

Some experts saying it is NOT going to diminish in strength, but actually become stronger. Seriously, what's wrong with a quick vacation to Nashville?

To be fair, my hurricane supplies include beer and alcohol because there is a fair amount of tedium involved to being homebound for days, especially with teens who have never been without power for more than 45 minutes.

I don't get to evacuate because I'm part of the continuity of operations and recovery staff for one of the affected counties. That said, if I were in an evacuation zone I would absolutely leave to shelter somewhere safer and my job requires me to do so. They make us provide our family plans well in advance of the season because the rest of the public depends on our availability during and after.

I've used it as a teachable moment for my kids. The old fable about the ants and the grasshopper was on full display last night as there were lines to get into the Wal-Mart parking lot, lines at the gas stations, lines at the pharmacy, etc. My normal hour commute home took 2.5 hours.

They've had since June to prepare themselves. Yet here they are fighting to strip the town of anything useful at the last second, and placing undo supply chain burdens on the entire community all because they couldn't sit on a week's worth of shelf-stable food/water/etc. for a few months.

All 700?
Saw Hi-Wire, well, it's roofline. I'll be surprised if that can be recovered. an article I read seems to indicate that it was all, could be general statement, without power I guess most are shutdown for the short term

An article I read inducated all, may have been generalized. I imagine many were without power for extended periods

I only included the headline, the rest of the story goes into more detail. But "Potential to become the most destructive hurricane in West Florida history" does kinda say that.
Sorry, I'm don't mean to argue. It absolutely sounds like it will be bad.

However your comments on the headline were "Some experts saying it is NOT going to diminish in strength, but actually become stronger" which is misleading at best.

That was in the story..... I did a summary. Used to tutor English! It is a tad ambiguous. The Mayor said "If you stay you're going to die"

And I did a summary because no one is going to read the story anyway.....

OKAY, they are now predicting a 15 foot tidal wave/storm surge that will invade the entire ground zero..... Really, Nashville is a historical musical place to vacation for 3 days....

Latest computer projections. There will be nothing left standing except super structures in the 12+' zone.

Nashville.... Looking better every day. If this is anything like Katrina, and it's supposed to be worse, many people will make a new home there using the insurance$.

Oh, and I went to the doctors. Test came back positive for bird flu. I had a runny nose for almost a week, and LOST 3 POUNDS YAY!!!!!!! Feeling totally awesome yesterday and today.

edited: Had to use eye drops for the red eye tho. Really helped.
