I still got it!

I was looking at this thing, (my first guitar my father traded the local pawnshop some tools to get me for Christmas when I was about 12) and I started wondering if anyone else still has their first piece of gear, guitar, amp, pedal, ect. I know I can’t be the only sentimental fool. Let’s see what you held onto all these years.

I sold my first strat and my first marshall combo to pay for a plane ticket to meet a girl in another country. I am the least sentimental person on the planet, but some days I do think I shoulda kept that rig.

This is my first string instrument which was technically my mother's first guitar. Bought in the early 60's with what I'm told were "box top" coupons. I don't know what that means but the boomers 'round here likely do. She's a pro level pianist/educator so it didn't see much play time until I came around. Plays and sounds pretty good for what it is. View attachment 56813
I spoke too soon, I don’t imagine anyone’s first instrument is going to be something of top shelf caliber, I think thats a big reason why most people didn’t hold on to it.

I begged my parents to let me play guitar, so they gave me my mom's old classical guitar and stuck me in classical lessons. I hated every minute because I wanted to play rock, so I started hating the guitar. When I was 16 I spraypainted it black. When I was 18 I smashed it on the back patio and threw it away.

All the gear I got as a kid/teenager was garbage and I got rid of it as soon as I got something better. I didn't start getting gear worth keeping until I started working and buying it myself, but I still get rid of something as soon as I get something better. I am not sentimental with gear.

My oldest electric guitar is from 2022, my oldest amp is from 2022, the oldest pedal on my board is from 2021. My acoustic is from 2015 and my drumset is from 2016 though, so those are probably the longest I've hung onto any piece of gear.

You know the decaffeinated blends are almost as tasty.... ;-)

I don't blame you for getting rid of those if this is where you at now ;) :

I haven't been playing as long as most here, but I do still have my Epiphone Les Paul Studio and Boss Katana amp...

... honestly I still use the Boss as my primary practice amp...

The Epiphone has been modified with Gibson pickups and locking tuners... and sounds a crap-ton better!

That guitar screams Matsumoku, it couldn't have been made anywhere else.

I've still got my first strat... somewhere... in bits in a box.

What a fun thread!

Guitar - My first was a blue Ibanez Gio, and it was pretty good! I ended up trading it into the guitar store early on in my guitar journey in order to get a fancy looking red BC Rich Mockingbird (that couldn't hold itself in tune if its life depended on it. eugh)
Pedal - A black russian Big Muff. I only recently sold it to pay for my first foray into the world of building pedals - two Aion kits!
Amp - I still got it! A 50 watt Laney combo amp. I'll have to see about digging it out of storage so I can grab a photo.
