CONTEST Inventory Builds - Player Hater’s Ball 2025

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have been so free with their hate.

That said: I have been greedy. I have been Hoovering up all your hate like a hungry, hungry hippo. Or like that bear in that movie about the thing with the stuff I gave up years ago.

But, I must call an intervention for myself. Because as much as I hate you guys, and as much as I know that you hate me, we're getting away from the primary focus: the *player* hater.

I would like to hatefully ask that y'all save your vitriol for after you have submitted a build. We have some very cool prizes coming down the pipe here for y'all, and entries *will be judged on merit*.

Also: No, participation in that *other* contest will not disqualify you from this one. So feel free to enter both. We'll judge muff builds too.
 
Alright. Let's piggyback on Mr Stickman over here and get a bit more serious.

Let's talk PRIZES. Yes, prizes (finally).

We have 3 separate categories for prize eligibility: "Best in Show" (best general build), "Best Idea" (best circuit design), and "Player Hater of the Year" (best memes/hate).

For "Best in Show" we have a big 'ol box of goodies (a whopping 14 pounds) from our buddy @Cybercow . Here, we have the following:
  • 16 (or more) painted & bare enclosures (from 1590B & 125B to 1590DD)
  • 10 ÂĽ" stereo jacks
  • 6 measured & tested Mullard OC44 PNP BJTs
  • 6 measured & tested Russian MP20B PNP BJTs
  • Several various ÂĽ" knobs (Davies, MXR, etc)
  • Small organized box of MLCCs
  • Some toggle switches
  • A handful of PCBs (some full circuit, others are utility).
  • A small clear compartment box of assorted water-clear 3mm LEDs
  • A set of new cut-off clippers, a new titanium toothpick (for clearing unsoldered PCB holes)
  • Three 15x packs of flute-shafted solder-lug 16mm pots in useful values, and other useful goodies
2nd Place prize for "Best Build" will be a production grade Pompeii Deluxe fuzz pedal courtesy of @Big Monk

For "Best Idea" our local tube pedal expert @vigilante398 has offered up the following plus something extra if he sees fit. This one is pretty good for all you fuzz heads out there:
  • 10x PNP (mix of SRC56 and SRC52, but all test similar hfe)
  • 9x NPN 2N445A
  • 10 2N5458
  • $50 to C2CElectronics
Last, but not least, we have a prize for the "Player Hater of the Year". Remember, you have to submit a proper build first before unleashing your memes/hate. This prize package has been submitted from our own @Stickman393 and "could include":
  • Turret Boards
  • Wah inductors and other crying goodies
  • Various Stickman goodies
  • Various Stickman hate
The player hater prize package will be dependent on how good your meme game is. Again, this all happens AFTER you submit an official build.

And, oh yea, you're more than welcome to submit your build here if it is also for @Harry Klippton 's contest. 2 for 1. Either way.....

But you can’t really, based on the rules of The Contest of the Summer. Submitting an entry here disqualifies you from that contest.
 
So, what if your wife orders you parts because you completed yet another revolution around the sun since the dawn of your birth?
 
To clarify the rules:

I am a clown. Honk honk. Please do not buy parts for your build. We don't have any way to actually enforce this, but we love (we, hate? I'm so confused) and trust our fellow forum members enough to say...hey...honor system, folks.

Also: to clarify my own position. I am also not actually accepting bribes. But I do appreciate the offers. Keep those coming.

Inventory in this case may be defined as "cannibalized from another build" and/or "traded with another person without an exchange of cash monies". We just don't want folks shelling out crazy money for $5 diodes. Use your resources available to you, just don't exchange currency. Fuck Money, get Building.
 
The underlying drive of both contests is to get people off their asses and build something — when putting the contest rules under the microscope I think people are loosing sight of that "Big Picture" of "BUILD SOMETHING FFS!"


Personally...
I will continue to enjoy the idea of building something for one of the contests while not actually doing so for either.

I have found this extremely helpful. I am the type to hold off a build for one particular part, even if I have something I can substitute. The whole “no purchasing” has lifted that mental block for me, and made me realize how much shit I actually have laying around and tucked away.
