I totally missed this one earlier in the week. This you @Cybercow ? What’s up with that mismatched tone knob? Did you take it away from the dog after it chewed on it and then throw it on this pedal? If you’re giving away any knobs in your prize box offering… maybe you should reconsider keeping them. Unless the dog chewed on those too.
finished this build last weekend, but didn't get a demo done until today.
it doesn't look like many people have built this one, at least recently, so I'm glad i made the effort for a demo.
or maybe not, cos that's just even more fodder for the roasting as is necessary for this contest
(featuring my goldtop tuned to drop G. sounds awesome)
i had a vero layout for this printed and sitting in a folder for a while, but wasn’t sure when/if i was really gonna build it.
so when PHB2025 got launched, i guess it was the push that got this build to happen sooner than i had planned.
fortunately i had already ordered some 2N3903 transistors from mouser last year, so i started off by breadboarding it first, as i wanted to make sure its something i’d actually like.
i was pleasantly surprised at how much more i enjoyed this than the Ge NPN ToneBender MkII i breadboarded previously.
heaps more bottom end...
It's a Zonk II on veroboard, made from mostly recycled breadboard parts and nothing new.
In case the roasting needs any guidance, which I doubt, let me kick proceedings off:
1) It's in a 1590B with side jacks
2) Other than the OC75s, which I got from my local in a moment of blinding good luck some years ago, there are no vintage components (IOW, no carbon comp resistors, no phenolic boards, as beautiful as these may be)
3) The volume pot doesn't work (recycling a much-abused component isn't all it's cracked up to be). I'll replace this after the competition closes
4) The LED (artfully placed above the intentional white washer) is retina-destroyingly bright
5) There is no item 5 (aren't white washers and over-enthusiastic LEDs enough?)
6) The silly label is bad enough but it's also off-centre (I thought of sometime yonki à la Tom Verlaine's song, fonque-y, sometime with do with 'bonk,' 'conk,' or 'plonk': enough, honky-zonk [women] is surely sufficiently cringeworthy).
Temptiing as these options were, I balked at using 1) an outie jack 2) giving the lone WIMA cap a sidelong brush or two with the iron for improved toan. Admirable restraint, if I say so myself.
Right, nuff said. I'm going to baste this unsuspecting box in BBQ sauce and begin heating the oven.
To quote CB, 'His eyes watered in appreciation at their heartfelt preparation,' or some such.
How does it sound, you say? In a word, fuzzy. Exits rapidly stage left...

Just to make sure there is competition in the breadboard side of the house, I present a work in progress a LFO driven PT2399 delay. It's basically the PT Wobble Delay from Electric Druid with a modification to change the maximum time using a B100K potentiometer and a TAPFLO3D to adjust the LFO. Yes, it is modulation and it ticks, it is a breadboard, it is part of the charm.
Maybe I'll add a Belton Brick Reverb to the mix too.
I see you've posted a schematic, a breadboard shot, and a quick demo. Is this circuit complete? I'm going through this week's activity now and will post an official update for week 3.
Alright. Week 3 of the Player Haters Ball has come and gone here are the updates from this week. Not a lot of hate/roasting unfortunately. Remember, we are keeping track of all your roast memes out there so keep em coming!
Builds
@jessenator put his hat in the ring with a super polished Cornish take on the Muff. Nice job!
@owlexifry decided to put together a vero layout of a EQD Black Ash clone. Palms are sweaty, mom's white spaghetti!
@mybud through much tinkering finally put together a Zonk II on vero. If I had a pet rat he would live in there
Breadboard/Circuit Design
@leadfoot decided to dive in with his breadboard with a "LFO Driven Delay". We still need confirmation that the circuit is complete and we will count it. Right now it's a "in process"
@Nic has been tinkering with a Rangemaster to get his biasing just right. Unfortunately, this is pretty much a stock circuit and out of scope for an official entry
Hate
You guys were killing it with the roasts early on last week, then it all kind of fizzled out. WTF guys? I guess we need more activity.
Speaking of hate, things kind of got out of hand with the IAIGF vibes. It seems like it has been addressed and the tone of this thread has shifted to a more appropriate level of hate. @Guardians of the analog has asked to have his entry withdrawn from the contest and has been done accordingly.
A "leaderboard" has been made at the bottom of the OP. The formatting isn't great, but it's there. For some reason trying to post a google doc speadsheet made it look like crap, so I did it manually. Still isn't that great, but it's up there.
I have read several other build reports recently not posted here and I thought this is worth mentioning.
Top Prizes for each category will be shipped internationally. This contest is open to everyone here. This will include @Stickman393 's prize as well for best memes/roasts/hate.
2nd place build prize will be shipped CONUS only. Results of the contest will determine who this will get shipped to.
