Is it contest time again?

Here are some categories that reflect some of the things I like about the builds of this forum

- cleanest gut shot
- craziest build (lots of junk stuffed into a small enclosure, or most deviated from a standard PCB, etc)
- most aesthetic enclosure/overall presentation
- most DIY (could be making parts at home, or best reflecting the style of the diy stompbox community, or define your own "diy" with an explanation)
- most interesting

Some of these are easy to define, while others are more open to interpretation. I think that's where this forum shines - the open ended choose your own adventure type of thing.

Extra points could be awarded for certain thread references, or other ideas. Be creative

The one stipulation would be of course you can't use an existing design or one you're working on currently. So for example I can't use my Ceasar Chorus incorporated with my Fender amp's reverb and trem footswitches made up to be like a Ripply Fall, even tho it's super cool. The contest should be a month long, for example, with a defined start date and finish date

Sifting through this thread, we have about 5 of you with general interest in some sort of non-hating contest.

Anybody else interested in hosting or participating in a contest?
I could offer tested germaniums as a prize. And a stickductor.

But I would insist that the contest be at least partially based on hate.

And dancing. Shamefully. To amuse me.

@BuddytheReow mentioned circuit design, and all the steps that entails. I don't think a month is enough time to do that properly, perhaps that could be a 2 month time frame?

I was thinking using one of Robert's PCB's as a base for a project, which would standardize things, as well as provide a shorter timeline. But I really like the idea of learning about PCB design and production thru a contest. And standardization can stifle creativity.

Perhaps there could be a few different categories, or contests running concurrently? @darwin999 mentioned an Oscars style format, which sounds fun.

Maybe we could do a 2 month window for a circuit design from breadboard to completed pedal, while at the same time doing two month-long programs for those who don't want to participate in the circuit design one. For example, Buddy's could run from August 1 - Sep 31, while there could be (for example) a "Most Interesting" during the month of August, and a "Most aesthetic" during the month of September. Or there could be two or three categories for the shorter 1-month runs.

The warmer months are better for me here in the northeast because I'm able to paint. After October it gets dicey up thru March. Sometimes we have days it gets up to 40F, and I have a method for that, but it's not reliable. I'm working on ideas for a paint booth in my basement but I'm not there yet.

  • Best editing for a PPCB demo (likely a straight gift to @MichaelW )...

Not if MW's the judge, which he oughta be for that category.

Speaking of "Not..."...

Nudder contested idear:

Everybody waits until the next "Not-a-...?" kit that drops from Jay-aitch-ess and once everyone has the kit we hold a Zoom meeting and everyone assembles their kit in real-time.

Prize Categories:
  • Quickest unboxer
  • Quickest kit assembler
  • Best aesthetics / graphics
  • Best Gut-shot
  • Most creative application of GOOP to the guts
  • Farthest-travelled kit via mail/courier

NO MODS ALLOWED
Consolation prize for poor bugger who didn't get a kit in time for the contest is a kit.

At end of the Zoom meeting everyone plugs in for a huge jam to see how much latency can be forced upon the Zoom software-algoreiddimcowboy.
