JAM Tiny Amp Destroyer

This thing has been shoved down my throat in my feed lately and saw it came out today. $400 seems insane for a pedal designed to make you sound objectively bad.

I also came to fond out itnwas a collaboration with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard who are probably one of my most hated bands. Is there a genre of music I didn't know existed where you purposely try to have bad lofi guitar tone? Also a weird pedal to bring out when that band just dropped and EDM album.

Am I officially old and became the old man yelling at the sky?

Yes.

King Gizz are objectively one of the most talented bands on the planet currently whether you like them or not.

$400 isn't even that much for a pedal lol
I'd have to agree. I'm not even a fan but I do tend to listen to each album through at least once.
Their catalog is more dynamic than any other band out today. And at a rate of what, 8-10 months between full length releases? That's insane.

You might be! ;) It's just another dirt pedal. Since pedals were first made players have wanted the sound of some kind of distortion for various reasons. Rock'n'roll is rebellious, turn-it-up music and the sound of amps being pushed beyond clean has long been a staple. Listen to ZZ Top, where Billy Gibbons has been regarded as a purveyor of exceptional very overdriven tone, or the Beatles' Revolution. That's a pretty messy sound. But as a kid I listened to my sister's 45 record of Revolution (B side of Hey Jude) over and over because the sound was so warm and in-your-face. That was almost 60 years ago, and I would still love a pedal which captured that sound.

I don't really go for that '80s hair metal sound, or Eric Johnson's almost synthetic sound. I recently listened to the Steely Dan song Reelin' in the Years and was surprised at just how crappy the lead guitar sound was. Plenty of people love it though. And I can't stand Gary Moore's sound (or playing!) on Parisienne Walkways but I don't mind that many listeners love it.

I mean, it's that or I'm somebody who realises that my personal tastes aren't necessarily reflective of reality.

Even if you don't like the band, the pedal doesn't even sound bad - there are much worse dirt pedals available for a lot more money than that.

This thing makes you "sound objectively bad"? Jesus, every second pedal demo I see sounds worse than this. It also at least sounds like it does something different than most pedals out there, 95% which are just "old circuit with small tweaks".

369€ for two gain stages and a treble booster is actually very reasonable for a boutique signature pedal I would think - not that any boutique pedal pricing is "good" compared to building drive pedals yourself. The Jam pedals tubescreamer (normal three knobs with a clipping switch) is 269€.

I count myself as a KGLW fan even though I like maybe like ~3% of their songs, but I can easily see why someone would hate them. But if I hate bands, I don't usually post about it on forums, I just ignore them. So that part probably counts as "old man yelling at the sky", yes. Or at least "old man yelling in the cloud", these days.

It's sounds like art school bullshit.

My post was more not really thinking $400 was worth it more so than thinking the band sucks. I honestly couldn't even name a song of theirs. They are like that French band that is the hot band right now. Isn't pleasing to listen to but it's different so people think it's good. I honestly think most people are told what to like and just go with it.

I mean the pedal was designed to sound like a beginner practice amp. To me it's just chasing the Peavey Decade overhype that I still believe was some low level trolling when he said it was the "secret" to his sound.

To be honest it sounds more like you're told what to hate and just go with it. I really love the Petrodraconic Apocalypse album, and nobody told me about it - I found it myself. If we're going for baseless accusations, it sounds like you're angry other people like something you don't like because you feel like you're somehow worse off since you don't "get it", so you figure out that the music actually sucks and everyone else is stupid for liking it. But in reality it's ok for different people to like different things - it doesn't make you any worse if you don't like something others like, or vice versa.

...it does make you look like an ass if you just go around bashing what you don't like or understand, though.

I also don't like Angine de Poitrine, but I don't make it my personality to hate them. I just don't click on any videos about them and what do you know, I haven't had to listen to them!

I’m not a fan of King Gizz, but it genuinely sounds like you’re just bitter that you’re boring 😪
Like shit man, if anything remotely unique sets you off, what’s left? SRV and Oasis? Maybe some slow Clapton ballads if you’re really feeling adventurous…

Edit: wait… aren’t you the same guy who was flipping out about tayda a week or two ago? This is a hobby— it’s supposed to be fun. Don’t let things get to you so much 💕

I used a Peavey Studio Pro 50 for 20 years, it's broken now and and full of JRC4558's.

I liked the demos of that pedal linked above, it sounds pretty nice to my ears.

I think you are greatly misinterpreting my concept of the term hate. By hate I mean I don't listen to them and don't really get the hype behind them. I'm 39 I really am more perplexed and don't really understand the hype around them. The only thing I hate is when I don't like their posts and don't engage with any of their posts yest their music is somehow still shoved down my throat any time I hope on Instagram of social media. I've heard Gizzard a lot of their stuff and just never been impressed. I know all about people hating bands I love. I have been a Primus fan since 1999 and was always told by people, usually my friends, how much they sucked. Now my buddies come with me to primus shows. Not everyone who says the word "hate" is seething in their basement over it and trying to start a Lynch Mob. Also a sweet band.

Edit: this is a subject for the hot take thread. This is just about taste.
Since you asked: You sound old. I cant judge you for having bad taste.
I think this thread is much more entertaining with this video. Again that is just an opinion:
"having bad taste" if the qualifier for good taste is listening to this I'm fine being in bad taste camp
